Dance Entreated my Soul

I had to stop going to the dance studio classes, but that doesn't mean I stop dancing.

I make my way to the little studio located on the higher floor of the building, where the members sometimes practice.... or realistically just goof around.

The biker shorts and freakishly long T-shirt combo is my go-to attire nowadays, especially when I'm doing something physical. The sound of footsteps on the stairs echos against the narrow walls of the staircase.

Dancing has now become an almost daily thing, it keeps my mind of work, or the lack of it, and it never fails to boost my mood. Old BTS choreographies, freestyles and originals are what I'm doing most these days.

I finally reach the floor and make my way into the studio, though it's really only a room with a mirrored wall. I set down my bag containing water and extras, and plug my phone into my speaker. Shoes are squeaking against the hardwood floor.

I look up to notice Hoseok with his headphones in his ears, facing away from the mirror, and completely enthralled in the choreography.

I didnt even notice him
Hm... must be a new potential dance for a music video or something

Even with the shuffling noises made by my fidgeting with the cord of the plug, and the occasional dropping of things as per my internal discord, Hoseok steadily failed to notice my presence.

He must be really into it

I decided it be best to keep myself a mystery to the clearly occupied member and went against calling out to him. The studio is the most peaceful place. The squeaking of the shoes continues, this time quicker and more harsh.

After setting my stuff down, I decided to try and choreograph something of my own, something with a hip hop style to it.

My music of choice began occupying the room and washing out Hoseok's aggressive footsteps. They didn't stop however.

I stood around listening to the beat and rhythm of the song; I'm no professional choreographer but it can be fun to just experiment with things you've seen other dancers do. I began conducting a visual of what I want to do and how to fit it into the rhythm of the music, moving my body to match my vision and inspecting my movements in the mirror in front of me. I notice myself occasionally eyeing Hoseok's back. All that's audible is the beat of the song.

After a few minutes of our separated encounter, I see Hoseok's reflection turn around and face mine. The beat is washed out from my hearing, everything is loud. He jumps in surprise,

"Woah, y/n! You scared me!" He laughs whilst removing his headphones out of his ears, "I didn't even notice you! You should've called out to me". Hoseok continues to laugh hysterically.

"You beer so focused I didn't want to disturb you" I grin back at him, finally turning around to actually face him.

He giggles, "Yeah, I'm working on a new piece" "What are you doing?" He asks.

"Oh I'm just trying to choreograph something to this song, though I'm not very good" I shyly confess.

"That's dope! Show me what you've got so far!"

I suddenly become embarrassed and insecure,

I suddenly become embarrassed and insecure,

And he quickly notices my change in attitude.

"Don't worry, I'm sure it's good!" Hoseok reassures.

I reluctantly restart the song and begin my amateur choreography, although still trying to look as into the music as he does. Hoseok eyes me intensely, taking in every movement, every expression and every breathe of air exiting my body.

Oh he's a professional all right

"That's all I got" I declare, slightly gasping for air.

Man I've become unfit

Hoseok begins clapping his hands in an over exaggerated manner, cheering as though there was a big crowd watching me do something cool like a backflip,

"That was pretty good!" He exclaims.

"Nah I'm just an amateur, nothing compared to you" I say. Despite knowing that he's only saying this out of kindness I can't help but feel happy.

"Do you want to choreograph it together?" He asks with a grin.

"Oh my god do I?! Yeah that would be so much fun!" I exclaim with booming excitement.

Wow, I'm going to make a choreography with the. Jeong. Freaking. Hoseok.
Sweet

The dancer laughs in response and we both turn to face the mirror. Unlike my usual way of choreographing - which is just listening to the beat and creating movements that fit with the flow - Hoseok sat down and extremely intently listened to the music, identifying rhythms unknown to my ear.

We decided to keep the beginning 30 seconds that I did, and after teaching him my part, we went on to continue the dance together, bouncing ideas off of each other. Though it was mostly me agreeing to everything Hoseok was saying.

The dance we ended up going with was specifically for a duo, incorporating synchronization with leveling and canon movements, and occasionally physical touch. His warm hands gripped my shoulders and held onto my waist as he pushed me to the side for one of the moves.

My heart is doing things I don't like..
I'm kinda nervous.... but that's because he's a huge star.

An hour went by, and then another. We were both hot and sweaty, laughing and shouting; fooling around. The sun invited itself into the room through the window; there were birds making a nest outside.

This was the most fun I've had in a while.

After we both decided that we were finished, Hoseok went down to call the other members. 5 of them accompanied him into the studio. Jimin and Yoongi stayed upstairs.

Hoseok and I presented our 2 and a half minute choreography to our new audience members, getting an occasional 'ooo' when displayed physical touch.

The day ended in happiness and laughter,

Dance entreated my soul.
