"What's real and what's fake?",
Yoongi sighs, playing with one of my many paintbrushes, twirling it around his finger like you would a pen when you're bored in an exam.
"Hmm.. I mean stuff like fairies is fake.." I respond, not really paying attention to Yoongi and instead focusing on the canvas in front of me.
"Yeah.." his voice trails off, "but I always thought love was fake, and success was fake..."
My attention is captured instantly, "What?!" my voice goes two octaves higher and I turn around, half sarcastic, half offended.
"I guess I can't really say that love is fake now" he chuckles, and continues on in his thoughts.
"You know what's fake? Everything! Nothing is real, we're probably in a simulation" I let myself blabber random things.
I hear Yoongi's laugh behind me, "You might be into something"
The room is cold, but the calm music brings this room to life. There's crocuses sprouting on the window cill.
"All these paintings.. what are you going to do with them?" Yoongi asks, walking over to piles of finishes and unfinished artworks scattered on a shelf in the corner.
"Well, I usually sell most of them online, but some I keep as part of my portfolio.." I glance at Yoongi's figure beside the paintings,
there's way too many
Yoongi jerks his head towards my direction and lets out an over-exaggerated gasp, "Are you going to sell the second portrait you drew of me?!"
I giggle at his dramatic performance, "No of course not! I drew it for you, and besides.." I mutter, "I put too much of myself in it".
He lets out a sigh of relief, "Thank God!"
It's quiet besides from the sounds of my paintbrush against the canvas and the engines of cars outside. The music has stopped.
"Have you heard of aestheticism?" I ask him.
Yoongi shakes his head as he continues to look through my art drawers.
"Well," I begin, "It's a philosophy that states that art should be for art's sake".
To his confused expression I continue, "It means art should be made for the purpose of being visually appealing, for its beauty, and not for any deeper meaning or hidden story"
"Huh.... interesting.." he mumbles, still admiring my supplies.
"Yeah.." I sigh, "but for some reason I can't seem to grasp it. I can never make art for art's sake".
Yoongi turns to me, "maybe that's not a bad thing, something with a meaning is more interesting.. Though I guess not always.."'
I nod in agreement and we continue being enthralled in the interior silence.
"Hey babe, remember when you asked me if I remembered when we first met?" Yoongi breaks this silence, sitting back down on my bed.
"Yeah?"
"I said that we first met when you came over the first time, with Namjoon. But I've been thinking, and I think the first time I met you was at the fan sign, when you rapped the cypher verse" he hypothesizes.
I take a second to think but I respond with silence to invite him to elaborate.
"That's when you caught my attention.. it's when you stood out from the rest, clearly among all of us members"
"I told you it was before I came over the first time!" I lay down my paintbrush and step back to observe my work.
"Thoughts?" I turn to him.
Yoongi gazes at the now crowded canvas, seemingly intently analyzing what's in front of him.
"I like it" he finally says, "you should try and consider that philosophy you talked about though"
I giggle and nod my head in response, taking out my camera to snap a few pictures of the painting.
Yoongi gets up off of the bed and hugs me from behind, wrapping his arms around my neck and leaning his head on my shoulder.
The car engines have grown silent, and not even the cicadas are chirping anymore; I can't even hear Yoongi's breathe in my ear. From the corner of my eye, the crocus continues to bloom.
Maybe I should consider art for art's sake.
