Amari was the most nervous she'd ever been in her life. That one time at the academy when she had to take her field tests, she was nervous. But never as much as this. No, these nerves were driving her to pace inside the tiny elevator she was thankfully occupying alone.
The tiny elevator taking her to the sixth floor, where (if she was being dramatic) her future awaits. The demanding ding of the elevator drew her out of her thoughts and she stopped pacing, instead breathing deeply through her nose and trying not to freak out. Which proved to be useless because as soon as those doors opened and she stepped out, she was surrounded. By agents scurrying around with files and phones ringing in every direction. She could feel the panic swallow her up, threatening to overcome her emotions — and it would have, if it weren't for him.
"Amari!" Spencer bounded over to her, like an overly excited golden retriever. He noticed the panicked look and swept her up in his arms, gripping her tightly as she calmed down in his embrace.
She smiled shyly up at him, "Hey Spence."
He grinned, unwrapping his arms from around her. "Hey? I haven't seen you in three years and all you have to say is: hey Spence?" His voice got all whiny and high pitched and she had to restrain herself from whacking him over the head as he mocked her.
Instead she rolled her eyes and did little to stop the smile that grew on her face. "Oh hush. I'm going to be late if you keep holding me up. You don't happen to know where Aaron Hotchner's office is, do you?"
Spencer nodded and they started walking, "Considering he's my boss, I would hope so."
He lead her over to Aaron Hotchner's office while trying to catch her up on three years of his life in two minutes.
He was speaking really fast. "WhichiswheniinterruptedGideoninhislecturehallandthtwasthefirstpropercaseweworkedand-"
"Spence, how about we catch up properly later? You can tell me all about what you were telling me in more depth and I can catch you up on me? Sound good?" She interrupted gently, noticing that they were outside a door with the name 'Aaron Hotchner' emblazoned in a name card.
He nodded, letting out a nervous laugh when he realized how he was talking. He didn't even know what he was saying when he spoke that fast. "Sure. If we don't have a case then we can do it over lunch."
Amari nodded and knocked lightly on the door, the wreckless pounding of her heart was the only thing she could hear other than a deep voice telling her to come in. She entered the office, her legs feeling like jelly as she sat down across from a dark haired man in a suit, who was currently writing something down in a file.
"Agent Amari Cirillo." Hotch grinned.
"Hey Aaron." Amari smiled and slowly felt her nerves dissipate.
