The cafeteria was buzzing as I strolled in and it took me a while to locate my friends and get to them. Actually, the locating was easy, as we always stuck at the same spot, but I nearly pushed my way to the crowd. Getting there, I fistbumped Dylan and Ace, dropping my bag to the floor.
"Well, hello Mister I'm-not-going-to-say-my-name." Ace mimicked and I smirked. The message over the intercom more than a week ago had worked perfectly, nobody would ever believe Maddison again if she'd talk shit about me or Rebecca. Me and Rebecca. Who would have thought that girl would be so fun hanging around with?
Well you certainly didn't. You even were a little afraid of her at the start. A voice in my head said, but I decided to straight up ignore it. Nobody needed to know that.
"Have you heard about Alex?" Dylan asked and my head jerked up.
"What about him?"
"He broke his arm yesterday, he told us to let someone else take his spot." I groaned out loud, feeling incredibly frustrated. This was so typical of Alex, always breaking or bruising something at the moments he shouldn't, having to back out last minute. But he was right, we needed someone to replace him since we'd already paid for 20 people and I wasn't going to let that money go to waste. Besides, we needed an equal number.
"So who is replacing him?" I asked causing Ace to shrug.
"We hoped you could think of someone. Were a little out of guys."
Absolutely fantastic. Who was left to ask? All the popular guys had already joined andthe athletic nerds had declined the offer, so no, there weren't really any guys left that we could ask to come along with us. That was, until I noticed a familiar figure with black hair struggle through the crowd. Of course. Why hadn't I thought of it right away?
"I think I know someone." I said to Ace and Dylan before I started to make my way towards her. That's right, her. Being out of guys meant that a girl was the best option, especially this one.
"Rebecca!" I yelled as soon as I got into hearing range. She spun around on the heel of her sneaker, eying me with a questioning gaze as I tried to quickly get close.
"Dumbass. Since when do you call me by my full name?"
I rolled my eyes at her and hissed, "Since my fucking friends are watching." I motioned with my head.
She peered over my shoulder with inquisitive eyes and her face quickly filled with amusement, a lazy smile spreading over her lips. "Ace Winters is your friend?"
"Yeah why?" She'd never been the one to care about popular guys and I was surprised that she even knew Ace's name.
She quickly shook her head, waving a dismissive hand. "Long story. Anyway, why did you decide to grace me with your presence when your friends are watching, your majesty?" Her voice was mocking.
I ignored the clear sarcastic emphasis on the word friends and lauged a little at the 'your majesty' comment. "Well, I know you don't have much time and such and I know it's Friday, which means that tonight you're going to perform with the guys, but we've got the afternoon off and-" Shit, why was I rambling? It wasn't be so difficult to ask her along, was it?
"Don't you dare to ask me on a date because of a bet or something." She said cautiously in a warning tone and kicked up her foot a little. "You will lose your balls if you do."
I groaned in annoyance, giving her the middle finger. "I'm not going to ask you on as bloody date, for god's sake. Would you just listen to me? The guys and I, we have this monthly thing an-"
