Karasuno lost to Nekoma again. Each practice match they had, though, they got closer and closer. It was actually really satisfying to see Nekoma get more and more frustrated. It really showed them how much the boys improved.
I never knew how scary it could be to be so close to the court. Volleyballs were flying everywhere. "You'll get used to it." Kiyoko said each time the volleyballs came our way.
To make time go faster, both coaches had us clean the gym.
I waited outside the gym. I watched as everyone slowly trickled out. Kageyama and Hinata come out running at their fastest, screaming as they went. "Stop running everywhere!" Daichi yelled from inside the gym, but he was already too late for that.
I laughed lightly. They really acted like kids. It was super cute. They all seemed so scary, but they're all a bunch of weirdos. They're all so different from each other but yet they work so well together.
I was unsure about my feelings today. It was super fun to watch them so closely.
After some time alone, Ryu finally walked out of the club room. "Alright, let's go, girlie." He said, waving keys on his finger in front of him. I nodded my head walked his way quickly.
"What'd you think? Are we any closer to convincing you?" He leaned my way, pressing for an answer.
"Be the manager. It'd be nice to have my Lil' sis there." I pushed his face away.
"I said I was thinking about it." He laughed deeply. "Well, hurry up! Another first-year came by. She'll steal your spot." He teased.
If they already had someone, why did they keep asking me?
"Why can't she be the manager?" I said as I crossed my arms. "Cause she isn't you. Duh." He held on to the "H" longer and flicked my forehead.
"What's her name." I finally asked. "Yachi Hitoka. She a cute thing but nothing like my Kiyoko." He started blushing and held his hands together. Probably remembered her touching his hands.
"You're such a perv." I laughed and nudged his side. His facial expression changed into a more serious one, and he turned to me. "She will marry me. I am a patient man." He still held his hands together. "The guy who makes your heart race will come soon for you too. You're just heartless." He spat out.
I sighed. "I'm not heartless." He laughed loudly as soon as my sentence finished.
"Yeah, right! You always have this look on your face." He did his best impression of my face. I shoved him a bit harder, and he started to laugh along with me.
We finally arrived home, and Ryu collapsed on the couch. "Go shower. You stink." He waved me off, and he started falling asleep on the couch. "Goodnight, then." I mumbled before I disappeared into my room.
The next morning happened like routine. I would wake up Ryu, and he would somehow get dressed and ready in five minutes. At the same time, I need at least 30 minutes to feel remotely ready.
He ran out the door screaming. He didn't respond to my wake-up calls, so he ended being a little bit late.
"Wait for me!" I said in between pants, but he was already long gone. I gave up and rested my hands on my knees. "He's just making himself more tired." I mumbled and stood up straight again.
I wasn't in a rush, unlike him. Their practice was always 2 hours before school. I thought it was a bit much to have them practicing so hard before school, but none of the boys seemed to mind.
I was staring at my feet, and I bumped into something. "Ah- I"m sorry!" I closed my head and brought my hands up to my forehead. "I wasn't-" I looked up and opened my eyes and as my luck would have it. Tsukishima Kei was looking right into my eyes.
"Ah." I blurted out.
"C'mon Tsukki. We're already late." Yamaguchi yelled ahead of him. He was already pretty far ahead. "Watch where you're going next time." Tsukishima muttered to me before he jogged to catch up to his friend.
I felt a heat rise to my neck and that clammy feeling on my hands. I smacked my hands on my cheeks. I tried to compose myself, but he looked so pretty up close.
Just as I was about to cross the main entrance for the school, Yui called my name.
"Y/N. You took forever today!" I lifted an eyebrow at her. "Why are you here so early. You're usually still sleeping for about another half an hour." She smiled and linked my arm with hers. "Cause I wanted to see you. Duh." She tightened her grip on my arm, and we walked into the school together. We passed the hallway leading towards the volleyball gym, and I heard very faint yells coming from inside.
"How was it yesterday?" I slowed down my pace. "It was fine. Exhausting, and I wasn't even doing anything. They had a match against Nekoma. Y'know, the one with that guy you thought was really cute? The one that we heard making stupid chemistry jokes with that shorter boy?."
She made an O with her mouth. "Ah~ That school. You should have told me! I miss his face." She pouted, and we took a seat on a bench near the volleyball gym.
I debated whether or not I should tell her about what happened with Tsukishima, but it was probably a one-time thing, so I decided not to.
We conversed lightly, and I asked her about her crush. She wouldn't stop talking about how great he was, and her cheeks were even a little red as she spoke about him. I loved watching people talk about things they loved. Their eyes lit up, and their whole body language changed. Ask anyone what they love and ask them to talk about, and you opened a can of worms.
The door to the volleyball gym swung open. "Y/N and Nakaya! Come here!" My brother yelled for us. We both stood up while looking at the other confused.
"How did you even know we were out here?" I asked my brother as I picked up my bag. "Cause a lovely brother like me always knows. Hi Nakaya." He smiled and waved to my friend. "Hi, Tanaka." She whispered. She'd always had a small crush on him but gave up on him long ago when he started his obsession with Kiyoko.
"What do you need." I asked, peeking my head inside the gym. All the boys laid dead on the floor. Even the unbreakable force, Hinata and Kageyama, were tired. They always seemed to go on forever.
"What happened." I asked wide-eyed. "Oh nothing. We're just tired. I need you to go get something from the club room for us." I rolled my eyes. "Why can't you. I'm not the manage-" He covered my mouth with his hands. "Don't finish the sentence cause right now you are." His smile was sinister. I frowned at him, and he removed his hand.
"Whatever. What do you need." He stepped out of the gym and closed the door behind him. "Kiyoko found an old poster while she was cleaning the other day and wanted to show it herself, but she's sick today. She wants you to do it and encourage the boys inside."
I widened my eyes. "I am not the right person for this." I peered to Yui for any form of reassurance, but she was of no help.
"It's just this one favor. Kiyoko asked me to ask you, and I cannot fail my lovely Kiyoko now!" He pouted like a little kid again. I threw my hands up in frustration. "Fine. This morning or after school?" He jumped for joy. "You're the best. After school. Try and get here a little bit earlier!" He lightly pushed me back and opened the door again, disappearing inside the gym one again.
I sighed in defeat and held my head down low. Yui picked up my chin. "It's just this one thing. Plus, maybe they really need you. You're such a drag." She joked and walked away. Leaving me alone.
"She's really good at having the last word." I muttered to myself and kicked the dirt beneath me.
