Snow Season [COMPLETE]

Chapter 32

You spend the next three days either at the hospital or at home. Today is the day your mom gets to go home.

You put up a welcome home sign in the living room and bought a huge bouquet of flowers.

"Where do you want the flowers, babe?"

"Just put them on the dining room table. We gotta get going." You stick your head into the hallway and yell towards upstairs. "Dad! Ready?"

"I'll be down in a second!"

Twenty minutes later you arrive at the hospital.

"Ready to go, mom?"

"God, yes! Take me home please."

She looks so much better already. She doesn't look pale anymore, her warm golden hair is nicely done and her smile is bright.

"Yes ma'am."

You pull up to the house and help your mom out of the car. Elijah has the bags and your dad is opening the front door.

"Welcome home, mom!"

"Oohhhh honey...they're beautiful! Thanks, sweetie."

"Elijah picked them out. I had nothing to do with it."

"Thank you, honey. I love them. You've got good taste. I saw the flowers you got Hailee a while  ago. Good job, son."

"You're welcome, Lilly. And thanks." He smiles. "Here, sit down. Can I get you anything?"

"A glass of water please."

"Sure. Anything to eat? We got you those cookies you like."

"Stop spoiling me. But yes." Your mom has a playful smile on her face and Elijah chuckles.

"Oh, right! Mom, dad, I never got to show you what Elijah gave me for my birthday! I'll go get it."

"Now you got me curious," she says with an excited tone.

"You and me both," your dad adds.

You enter the living room with your surfboard but hide the picture from them.

Your mom looks impressed. "A surfboard. How nice of him!"

"Not just any surfboard..."

You turn it around so they can see it. Your mom gasps and her hand flies up to her mouth. Your dad holds her hand and squeezes it. Tears fill their eyes and they just sit there and look at it. At your brand new gorgeous Ben-board. You look at Elijah and smile at him, he winks back at you.

"Honey that's... I.. you..." Your mom struggles to get her words out.

"That's sensational."

Your mom wipes away her tears and gets up from the couch.

"Mom, please. Sit down."

She walks over to you and places her hand on Ben's face. Her fingers glide over the picture while fresh tears roll down her cheek. She looks up at you and smiles.

"This is amazing. It's beautiful."

"I showed him the picture on our first date and said it was my favorite picture of Ben. Five weeks later he surprises me with this."

She walks over to Elijah and pulls him in for a hug. "You are amazing. I love you so much. Thank you for loving our girl the way you do. Ben would've loved it. And he would've loved you."

"Thank you, Lilly. She deserved something special. And now she can take Ben with her out on the water when she's riding those waves."

"You are something, my son." She turns to you. "Hailee, you treat him well, okay! Don't you ever let this one go or you'll have to answer to me!"
