Chapter 69

Henry Benjamin Burke is born.

Elijah looks at you with red but loving eyes. "I love you so much."

"I love you, baby, I love you so much. Look at him. He's perfect."

"He is."

His loud cries fill the room and it's the most beautiful sound you've ever heard.

"Okay, Hailee, Elisabeth is going to take Henry from you for a while to check him over so you can welcome your baby girl as well."

Your heart hurts that your have to let go of him already. Against all instincts you hand him over to Elisabeth.

"Oh god, that's right. I gotta do this again."

"Last one Hailee, I promise."

"I hope you're right. I'm not doing triplets!"

After three horrible contractions and pushing with all the power and energy left in your tired and hurting body, you grab your little girl and pull her out, just like you did with Henry and it's the most empowering feeling you've ever experienced.

Her cries join her brother's while Elijah cuts the chord one last time. Relief washes over you as you hold your baby girl in your arms.

Rose 'Rosie' Amelia Burke is here.

You decided on Amelia as a second name a few weeks ago. It was Ben's middle name and your grandmother's first name.

"Our girl. I can't believe our girl is here." Elijah kisses you with all the love in his heart. His tears mix with yours and run freely. "You did it, baby. You did it. I never doubted you for one second. You were absolutely amazing."

"We did it. I couldn't have done this, twice, without you. You're my rock, Elijah. You're my rock."

More tears come and you're both sobbing as you look at both your little miracles.

"Congratulations to the both of you. Hailee, you were out of this world amazing, really."

"You really were. We don't see this often. Right, doctor Morgan?"

"Absolutely!"

Elisabeth hands Rosie to Elijah, who carefully and somewhat scared, takes his baby girl in his arms. He looks at her and fresh tears roll over his face. "I'm a dad. I'm your dad." He looks at her with so much love that you can't help but melt and cry fresh tears.

His eyes take in every little line and curve of her little face and he soothes her by gently rocking his body with her in his arms.

You get Henry in your arms and look at him like Elijah is looking at Rosie. With so much love it overwhelms you. You've never experienced this kind of love, so fast. It's everything.

"She's perfect. She's so beautiful it hurts my heart."

"And who are these two cuties?" Doctor Morgan asks.

"This is Henry Benjamin Burke. After Elijah's grandfather and my brother."

"And this gorgeous girl here is Rose 'Rosie' Amelia Burke. After Hailee's grandma."

"Rosie and Henry. Perfect." Elisabeth takes your first family picture. It's perfectly real. Messy hair and tears of pure and unseen joy run down yours and Elijah's cheeks as you hold your newborns.

After the afterbirth and getting cleaned up a bit, Elisabeth helps you into a bed and you breastfeed both of them. It's both the weirdest and the most remarkable feeling ever. Elijah takes some pictures and you look down at your babies in complete awe.
