The topic today is the usage of "Oppa", "Unnie", "Noona" in books.

Oh God, I can already feel myself being cancelled and losing friends but yolo ✌🤘😎

Honestly, I don't know why I'm doing this when I'm not even a good writer or anything, but I'm just tired of readers cancelling any book that mentions the "O-word" because they're QuIrkY and people who use it are CrIngEy.

Do you realize that if you write a Korean OC, or any OC for the record, you should respect their culture?

Let me put in perspective for you: Let's say you wrote a Muslim OC. You do realize you can't get rid of certain words just because you feel uncomfortable using them? Here's the thing about being a writer: When you write, you SHOULDN'T force your personal preferences in a character that has its own characteristics. I just personally think cultures are sacred, and no one should mess up with it just because they find it uncomfortable.

In my opinion, and let me emphasize on that again, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, I think you should respect the culture of your OC. (I think that's an unspoken rule in the world of writers? But again, who am I to know?) Again, this is my opinion, take it or leave it. I would respect yours whatever you do.

Solutions:

Right now, I'm not invalidating your feelings. You agree with my opinion? Cool, you're probably a writer that can bring themselves to strip themselves out of their OCs characters. I can't relate to that sometimes. You find it uncomfortable to use the romanized 오빠? THAT'S FUCKING OKAY! That's you. I do find it weird too when I use it for my PERSONAL reasons (not that I ever do, I'm just giving an example and setting the background for you to understand).
My point is, you can avoid using that word but not putting your OC in a situation they have to use it (by making her the same age than her love interest for example), or if it comes to her family, where in that case, it should be mandatory to use it, you can just never mention it so that the readers get used to the idea that your OC won't mention the formality.

No need to bring the whole "I don't use Oppa, I use Hyung" because that looks like internalized misogyny to me but I don't want to go there or I'll get even more canceled, and please don't cancel me, I literally just started in the NCTzen community, okay?
Another thing is that, don't make your OC "well-mannered, respectful, abiding to rules" then in the same breath make her say: "I thInK tHe uSaGe oF oPpA iS uTteRlY cRinGe."

If you still find it hard to use "Oppa", picture your OC, a Korean female, and how easy it would be for her to use that word. This isn't about you, this is about your OC.

I lowkey feel like I appeared very mean in this chapter, please tell me if I did, but I just came back from this comment section that DRAGGED the writer for using "Oppa". DUDE, LEAVE HER THE FUCK ALONE, AT LEAST SHE KNOWS HOW TO RESPECT CULTURES. The comment section turned me off and I dropped the book.
All I wanted was a book to read because my online class is freaking boring 😣😥😔

If you do think this chapter was written in a mean way, please tell me, I will try to correct it or just straight up unpublish it because I feel like this is a controversial topic?¿?¿ idk anymore honestly, all I know is that I regret this
