A COLD STEP

"Those eight were slaughtered like hell, there is something big coming for us.....I can't stand a chance to risk a little bit of Akatsuki now..."

The slender well built man with bright orange hair and mystical eyes spoke to the other people present in the dining area wearing those same famous red clouds.

"You need to stress less Nagato..." Konan whispered to the man standing by her.

Pein gave her worried face a glance and took a small sigh," where are the others?"

"Kakuzu is on one of his favorite trips of looting money.... ummm... didn't know about the shark though... must be with that serial killer he has as a partner..."

Hidan made the sarcastic comment and laughed out pretty hard on his on words.

"Well, I want everyone to be more serious and cautious.... we can't lose anymore members right now..." Pein commanded and puffed out in air.

Konan sighed as tiredness covered her face and she slowly sat on the chair besides Sasori.

She kept observing the red head's work as he fixed his little puppets.

"Mannnn.... I'm hungry!!.."

A loud annoyed noise came from the hallway as Kisame entered the room.

Konan gave a questioned look and asked," where were you??"

Kisame yawned and stretched his arms in the air," In my room... where else?"

"I thought you were with Itachi..?" She asked.

Kisame walked up to the fridge and began searching for any food he could chew his sharp teeth on.

"I don't know.... I think Itachi is in his room all day, I tried to call him out but he likes to be alone so I don't care much about that...."

Kisame answered as he filled his mouth with leftover sandwich.

"Ha! Must be planning another Massacre, hahaha!!!... oh Lord Jashin!" Hidan laughed as he made himself proud with another great comeback.

Konan stood up," maybe I should check on him.... to make sure he is in no danger.... we have lost enough people, we can't afford anymore, at least not him..."

Konan presented her concern and walked away into the hallway towards Itachi's room.

——————ITACHI's P.O.V.——————

I had put (y/n) to rest again after her traumatized experience with a dream.

She didn't say anything but I could pretty much read her eyes filled with fear and shock.

It's just a bad dream....

I assured her and put her to bed patting her head gently...

I was more concerned about what that orange mask was planning..... and judging from his words, it won't be any good for (y/n).....

I have to act fast.... have to act before his first move....

And then it struck me....

The hallway was lit with yellow and white wall lamps placed alternatively in order to prevent the hideous dingy feel to this hideout.

Konan steps made echo as she approached closer to her destination. She stopped few feet away after she noticed the dark masculine figure standing outside the room closing the door slowly.

"Itachi.... so you're okay..." Konan sighs slowly as Itachi walked closer to her.

"Where were you? Kisame was looking for you too.... you guys had a mission... it's very unusual of you, Itachi..." Konan expressed her concern as Itachi stood there muted.

Itachi ignored her question and said," konan, I need to talk to you..."

This statement took Konan by surprise as Itachi never spoke like that.

"What is it ...? " she asked and her eyes locked on to the Itachi's door trying to figure out what's going on.

"I have a new member to join the Akatsuki....."

These Words pulled Konan out of her suspicions state and made her focus towards the Raven's well-sculpted face.

"What?" She gave a confused look.

Itachi let out a little sigh," I have found someone, very strong and reliable for the Akatsuki.....and I think it's good because the organization was almost on the verge of extinction few hours before."

Konan sensed that whatever Itachi is talking about, he has something related to that in his room. She carefully slipped out one of her paper note and slid it under the door.

But it was stopped halfway with brutal force of Itachi's foot pulling it out and making it crumble to dust.

At this point the black orbs were now red as blood," I think you should focus more here..."

Itachi said bluntly as his crimson eyes glow. Konan hesitated a little but finally spoke,

"I know Itachi, you have your new member with you..... but we also follow some criteria, we can't let everyone in, your ninja has to be stand out than others.... so tell me what is the recent accomplishment of your new partner"

Itachi leaned his back on the side wall and closed his eyes while folding arms.

"Recently wiped out 8 Akatsuki members..."

He replied with no emotions.

A shiver ran down the spine of Konan as she quickly took few steps further and stood in front of the room's door.

"You got to be kidding me Itachi?!"

She sounded extremely mad and little angry as she proceeded to force open the door, but was interrupted by the strong arm of Uchiha pushing her away.

"You need to listen...", Itachi looked dead into her eyes," he was here to join Akatsuki and the defense was in between him and us ..... so he slaughtered them..... and you wanted a stand out quality right? Now you have it ...."

Konan raised her voice a little," But how did you know that he isn't a spy or a danger to us?!!"

"If that was the case then the ninja won't be alive till now...:" Itachi replied smoothly.

Konan took few minutes to process all that and finally shook her head," oh... Itachi....fine we all Will meet your new suggestion and I will let Pein know too..."

"He need a little time to recover....." Itachi replied.

Konan began moving back to the living room," fine...but it's better be soon now.... there will be lots of questions...."

With this statement she walked away.

Itachi let out a big sigh as his back slid down against the wall and he sat on the floor with head tilted backwards. His face looked tired but a little relief was there too as he saw his plan taking off.

Your tired eyes opened a little as the doorknob shifted and you saw him coming in. A sigh of relief came out from your lips thinking that it's Itachi and not anyone else.

"How are you feeling?" He asked as he sit on the side of the bed.

"I'm feeling better..." you said lazily.

"Good! We have to meet others tomorrow."

"Wait?!! WHAT?!!"
