Remus's body tensed, "U-uh it is n-not a s-she." He stammered. He had almost never been so nervous. He didn't know how Lily would react to it. "It is a he!?" Lily whisper-yelled not wanting anyone to wake up or hear them. The colour drained off his face. Lily was one of the only people he expected not to react badly to it. Oh no he thought, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything Lil-" He was about to finish when Lily interrupted him. "Are you kidding me? This is great! I should have guessed! Oh my Remus, don't be sorry!" She said excitedly. "Really?" Remus asked, relief spreading over his body. "Yes Remus! Who is the lucky boy oooooh?" She asked, curiously.

"Remus who are you talking to? Is James back already ?" Asked Sirius groggily, as he finally realised the presence of a fourth person in the room. "Oh um Lily wanted to take a book, go to sleep Padfoot." Remus replied, red as a tomato. Sirius nodded and went back to sleep,

"This is not over, I'll need answers tomorrow." Whispered Lily, as she finally left the boy's dorm.

It was just after breakfast and the marauders and the 'marauderetts' were visiting James in the Hospital Wing. He was up, reading a muggle book. "Who are you and what have you done with my Prongs!" Said Sirius, dramatically. James noticed the seven of them upon Sirius's dramatic statement, "Chill mate, Evans here left this book for me in the morning to read so I obviously assumed it will be good and started reading it." Said James as he shrugged. Remus put an expression of mock hurt on his and said, "I've been telling you to try muggle books since 5 years you didn't ever listen to me!"

"Oh how naive you are Lupin! Of course he will do whatever his precious Lilyflower tells him to, you're just plain old Remus." Said Marlene. James glared at her and Lily blushed as the others laughed. Dammit Lily thought, she's been blushing so much lately.

"Oh by the way, Slughorn announced a Ball for Slug Club on 31st." Remembered Alice. They were all part of the Slug Club except Peter and Mary, although James or Sirius never showed up to any meetings. "Ugh no!" Groaned James and Sirius at the same time. "He also said you two have to show up." Continued Alice adding to the two boys' disappointment. "We'll have to search for dates now." Sighed Sirius. "So? You two won't have any problem with that will you? Seeing how many girls are fawning over both of you!" Joked Remus, but maybe, just maybe Lily thought there was a bit of sadness behinh his words.

"Um yeah I guess." Said James as he messed up his hair even more, something he did when he was nervous. "Ye-yeah uh I mean- but like- I don't really like any of them." Mumbled Sirius, nervously but only James, Lily and Remus heard it as the others had started moving out of the hospital wing since their classes started soon. Remus reddened at that and seeing as none of the three boys seemed okay enough to speak anything Lily said, " C'mon guys, we'll be late for class." Though she eyes the boys suspiciously. James was not allowed to attend classes yet as he was still weak. (I am perfectly fine" "No Potter! You will not go anywhere until I allow you to and I mean that.")

"Don't think I've forgotten about yesterday night." Whispered Lily in Remus's ear as they headed out.

**************

Lily was walking to the Transfiguration classroom after Lunch. Remus, Marlene and Sirius had already left for the class. She heard someone call her name. It was her friend, Oliver Smith from Hufflepuff. They weren't very good friends but their parents knew each other as they were too, muggles and Oliver had also been her Potions partner last year. "Oh hey." She said. "Um, hi, I just wanted to ask if you would go to the ball with me?" He asked. "Oh." She said, this was definitely not what she had expected. Say no say no say no say no, she thought, you like someone else! "As friends?" He added. This hadn't been Oliver's original plan but Lily didn't seem to be interested in him that way so he might as well try this. Friends was okay with Lily, "Oh yeah, sure, I'll go to the Ball with you." She replied. "See you on 23rd at 7:00 pm?" He asked. "Yeah okay." Lily replied.

She turned back to go to the Transfiguration only to see James stand there, a look of sadness and hurt clear on his face, Madame Pomfrey had finally allowed him to go for a walk for a few minutes after his constant whining about being stuck in the Hospital Wing.

He had only heard the last part of their conversation. Sure he didn't own Lily, obviously, but still he was hurt, he had liked her for so many years and this was the first time they were actually friends. He had been thinking of asking Lily himself, just as friends, if not more. "James we're going just as-" Lily said, she had messed up, completely messed up. The look on James's face was too much, she couldn't bare that, but she was interrupted by James, " It's okay Lily, you can go with whoever you want." He tried his best to be polite, but most definitely failed.

He hates me now, doesn't he? He doesn't like me anymore! Oh I should have said yes to him when I had the chance, were Lily's only thoughts as she finally entered the Transfiguration classroom. She was too dazed to even properly apologise to Professor McGonagall when she pointed out that Lily was late.
