"That's it! Come on now! Come closer! Less talking if ya don't mind! I've got a real treat for you today, a great lesson! So follow me!" Hagrids friendly voice booms over the chatter of the students. We all follow Hagrid, who leads us to a little open space.
"Alright, open your books to page 49!" He instructs.
"Exactly how do we do that?" Malfoy sneers. I turn to him and he eyes me.
"Stroke the spine of course!" Hagrid says as if it's obvious. I watch Draco eye the book, turning it and analyzing it. He takes two fingers and starts stroking down the spine, but feels my stare. He looks up and makes eye contact as he continues stroking the spine of the book with an intense look in his eyes.
His stare sends shivers down my spine for whatever reason. I hear a growl and my attention is ripped away from Draco as I see Neville open his book improperly, ending up with him on the ground, his clothes ripped to shreds.
"Don't be such a wimp, Longbottom." Draco sneers as he looks down at Neville.
"I'm okay... Okay..." Neville says breathlessly as he recovers. The book snaps again and Harry drags me away.
"I think they're funny." Hermione says annoyed.
"Oh yeah, terribly funny! Really witty! God, this place has gone to the dogs! Wait until my father hears that Dumbledores got this oaf teaching classes." Malfoy says sarcastically, making Crabbe and Goyle laugh.
"Shut up, Malfoy." Harry says, stepping towards Draco. I grab his arm and he rips it out of my grasp aggressively, making my hand hit a rock. I hiss in pain. That'll bruise. Ass.
"Ooooh," Draco says mockingly. He drops his bag in Crabbes hand, before stepping towards Harry threateningly, with his usual smirk plastered on his chiseled face. He swaggers up to Harry, a smug look on his face. He looks at me for a moment and then back at Harry.
Suddenly he pauses, looking up. He starts backing up, a terrified look on his face.
"Dementor! Dementor!" He points and shouts, making Harry whip around quickly. His group of friends starts laughing and pull their hoods up.
"Oooooh!" They all mock, wiggling their fingers at Harry.
"Just turn away Harry..." Hermione mutters as she grabs Harry and drags him back to Rob and I. Draco smirks at me, and I see his eyes flick up then down again. Realizing I'm in my skirt and button up, I suddenly have the urge to put my robe back on... But at the same time I feel some sort of butterflies. Bleh. He's just creeping me out is all.
Hagrid clears his throat, and Draco and I break eye contact.
"Da da da daaaaaah!" Hagrid sings, gesturing to the creature in the clearing. "Isn't... he... beautiful?" He puts emphasis on every word, filled with pride. "Say hello to Buckbeak!" He tosses a dead rodent in the air and the creature grabs and eats it.
"Hagrid... exactly what is that?" Ron says what everyone's thinking.
"That, Ron, is a hippogriff! First thing you want to know about hippogriffs is that they're very proud creatures. Very easily offended. You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It may just be the last thing you ever do..." Hagrid warns us. "Now! Who would like to come and say hello?" Everyone, including me, steps back, except Harry, who is completely oblivious.
"Well done Harry! Well done. Come on now, Now! You have to let him make the first move. It's only polite. So, you step up, give him a nice bow, then you wait and see if he bows back. And if he does, you can go ahead and touch him. If not... well, we'll get to that later. Now, just make your bow." Harry creeps forward. "Nice and low..." Harry bows lowly, and the hippogriff starts squawking at him.
"Back off Harry! Back off!!" I grab Hermiones hand and she grabs mine back, tightly. Harry steps back and hits a twig which snaps, causing panic to rush through my body. Harry freezes, as Hagrid instructed.
The hippogriff clicks curiously, before bowing back at Harry.
"Well done Harry! Well done!" Hagrid says before praising the creature beside him.
Hagrid instructs Harry to go and pat buckbeak, and I almost tune him out, stressed and worried.Malfoy shoves Hermione and stands beside me pulling me from my thoughts as he aggressively bites into his green apple. I roll my eyes at him and he just makes solid eye contact.
My focus is back on Harry.
"Not so fast, Harry. Not so fast!" Hagrid warns as the hippogriff becomes agitated. Panic fills my senses and I reach for Hermiones hand, running my hand down her arm. I grab onto it and squeeze, she interlocks her fingers with mine. I feel a weird shock at her touch. Then I feel it; a cold ring against my skin.My eyes widen as realization strikes; Mione was shoved out of my way moments earlier. The hand I feel interlocked with mine is bigger, with longer, more slender fingers. His palm is warm but the tips of his fingers cold, and the feeling of a ring in my skin is unmistakable. The feeling is weirdly.. calming?
I whip my head to none other than Draco Malfoy smirking at me. I rip my hand away and his smirk falters for a moment.
My eyes train back on Harry, and he has already been petting the creature.
"If you wanted to hold hands, you should've just told me, y/L/n..." Malfoy whispers in my ear, leaning over, his warm breath tingling my neck. A blush coats my face.
"I was panicking in the moment... Malfoy. You're the one who shoved Hermione away from me anywho." I mutter, looking away.
I feel him slide his hand down my arm, subtly. The sensation of intense, overwhelming butterflies erupts all over my body. My eyes widen at his touch. He grabs my hand and holds it up.
"This is from earlier... From when Potter pushed you away, isn't it?" Draco asks firmly, pointing out a bloody gash that went unnoticed earlier. I stand there, suddenly feeling the pain of the injury.
"I think he may let you ride him now!" Hagrids voice brings my attention back to Harry, who looks terrified. Hagrid picks him up like a child and puts him on Buckbeaks back, ignoring his protests. With a smack on the back, the creature takes off. I cringe, worried about Harry.
"Y/L/n!" Dracos voice pulls my attention back. He carefully drags his icy fingertips around the wound. "You should get this looked at. Madam Pomfrey could heal it rather quickly." He mutters, without sarcasm. Shocking.
"Maybe I will...." I reply, surprised by the blondes actions. He looks back up, still holding my hand. The hippogriff comes back into view and my hand gently drops back to my side, not wanting Harry to get the wrong idea.
