TWO YEARS LATER
The summer breeze of July was flowing over Baskville- a small, peaceful town famous for its beautiful small hills, friendly people, and quick rains after a hot summer day. It was a beautiful Tuesday morning and everything was normal in the town except at Paeker's.
Shayla Paeker was devastated beyond repair, at least that's what the three girls felt at that moment. Her friends came over to her house as soon as they came to know the shocking news and they were glad that it was ten days semester break because it would give some time to Shayla to recover from the shock.
"I was so freaking sure all this time that Mikeg would never ever leave you. You and he were like the EPIC COUPLE. How the hell did all this shit happen?" Nattie said shockingly.
"Just give her a break Nattie, let her cry. Let her liberate all of this pain and anger and... and frustration and shock" Bianca replied in a hushed tone with her eyes widening with a silent warning in them.
"You girls know me. You know I do not cry for those who leave me. And back in my mind, I know that I will surely move on. There is no point in crying your whole life for somebody who left you. But my heart is going to take some time to register this situation. I mean I don't freaking get it! Everything was so well between us the day before yesterday."
"You see," Bianca said in an obvious tone, "shit happens in life, plus all boys are the same. I mean come on man. If you don't want to be with someone then tell them straight away. No need to stall the inevitable."
"It wasn't all his fault alone, Bee. We had some issues about certain things from the very beginning of the relationship and you know that," Shayla said in a weak and scratchy voice.
"Argh! Stop defending him. He left you! Now get up. Come with us. We can go to 'THE PEAS' and I swear this time we'll order your favorite," Nattie said with little hope and enthusiasm in her voice.
"I must say Nattie, I am proud of you. Finally, you said something commendable today." Nattie rolled her eyes at Bianca but ultimately her face lit up when she saw Shayla smiling weakly. Nattie would have given a strong reply to Bianca but Shayla's smile stopped her.
"Come on Shayla, get up. We will celebrate your breakup." Bianca said, eagerly waiting for Shayla's reply.
It appeared that both of Shayla's best friends were taking this whole break-up situation very lightly but that wasn't the case. They both were actually devastated but tried to mask their emotions, after all their ultimate goal was to cheer up their friend instead of making her feel bad about her current situation.
Shayla nodded affirmatively. " 'The Peas' sounds good. Let me freshen up."
"Okay...umm..so you go and change. We'll be waiting for you in the car, outside," Nattie said.
Bianca glanced at Nattie with concern in her eyes while descending the stairs and spoke, "You are thinking the same, right?"
"Hell yes Bee, hell yes!" Nattie spoke urgently as she couldn't hold herself anymore. "I feel so guilty right now. Shayla was right that guilt is dangerous. It can suck out all of your happiness. All I am feeling right now is that it's all our fault. We pushed her into a relationship when she wasn't ready for one." Nattie groaned and her head hung with shame and disappointment.
