Students flooded off the Hogwarts Express, all making their way to the carriages. Ron, Harry and I usually took our time getting off the train, knowing that there was no point rushing to be first to Hogwarts. However, that did mean that we were often the last to get a carriage.
"Hi guys," Neville smiled awkwardly as he caught up to us.
"Hey Neville," the three of us mumbled almost in sync.
Harry turned, startled as a carriage approached.
"What's wrong?" I inquired.
"Hermione, what's that?" He sounded nervous.
"What's what?" Ron chimed in.
"That thing, pulling the carriage," he clarified.
"There's nothing pulling the carriage, Harry. It's pulling itself like always," I said, confused about what he could see but my attention was drawn away from Harry as I saw a girl sitting in the carriage. Loony Lovegood.
As we approached the carriage, she addressed Harry. "You're not going mad," she began, "I can see them too. You're just as sane as I am."
From the look on Harry's face I could tell that this statement was not reassuring.
We all piled into the carriage and sat silently for a moment.
"Everyone this is Loony Love-" I paused, "Luna Lovegood." I couldn't believe I'd called her Loony to her face. Everyone was so used to calling her that it just slipped out. She must've known people called her that, they weren't very subtle.
I tried to recover by complimenting her necklace. She said something about it keeping nargles away.
Ron leaned over to me, "what's a nargle?"
"No idea," I murmured.
