The first feast of the new school year had begun. Ron was piling profuse amounts of food onto his plate. Harry just looked content being back at Hogwarts, not worried about the food, enjoying the entire atmosphere.
Fred caught my eye further down the table, he was acting stupid trying to tease Alicia Spinnet. I felt jealousy bubbling inside me but felt ridiculous. 'We're not dating', I reminded myself.
"Hermione?" Ron said, drawing my attention away. "Are you going to eat anything? They want to introduce a new teacher soon."
Pudding had seemingly appeared on the table, I didn't know how long I'd been looking at Fred but it was definitely too long to seem normal.
"You okay?" Ron asked, concerned.
"Yes, sorry," I smiled, 'yeah completely fine I was just thinking about how much of a pig your brother is for flirting with every girl he meets,' my thoughts informed me that I was a lot more annoyed than I let on.
Professor Dumbledore quickly gained the students' attention. He announced the new defence against the dark arts teacher: Professor Umbridge.
I watched the twins share an amused grin as she began introducing herself, they couldn't help themselves. Ron followed my gaze over to Fred and George, "what is it?" he asked. I had been staring again, why did Fred have to be so easy to look at? I needed to be more careful, especially around Ron, I didn't want to ruin our friendship by him finding out in the wrong way that I fancy his brother.
On another note, Umbridge was already getting on people's nerves, students and teachers alike. There was something so unsettling about her, maybe it was the faked niceness, maybe it was her voice.
"This looks like it's gonna be a fun year," Ron said sarcastically as we made our way out of the great hall, Harry and I knew exactly who he was referring to.
"It's just one teacher, Snape looked infuriated! That makes her more bearable in a way," I grinned.
"Snape not liking someone?" Harry began, "that's new."
"Oh shush," I giggled, stepping through the portrait into the common room.
