The day off from school because of the fire was glorious when spent with Gemma, Mason, Noah and Jackson (not so much during the moments spent with Robert...), as was the weekend that followed. I was extremely upset when the weekend passed and we were back to the same old schedule.
I pulled on a dark blue hoodie and black jeans, slipped on my old beat up sneakers and waited for my friends to come pick me up. I had already made breakfast for Robert which was slowly getting cold on the counter.
Minutes later, a black truck pulled into my driveway. I hopped down the steps and slid in next to Mason (who was the poor soul shoved into the middle seat instead of Noah today).
"Hehehe... notice anything different about me today, Crispy?" Noah asked. I looked over and instantly noticed that he had gotten a haircut, but decided to tease him a bit.
"New shoes?" I smiled innocently.
"No! Gosh, Erin I'm so offended you didn't notice," he said dramatically, placing a hand on his chest over his heart. Well, kinda.
"Noah, your heart isn't on the right side."
"Right I knew that..." he said "wait no left! Not right! But you're right! But not like right side just like right as in-"
"I get it Noah," I laughed, "and nice haircut, it looks good."
He stopped moving completely, and stared at me with his jaw dropped. Suddenly, his dropped jaw morphed into a huge smile that almost literally reached his eyes.
"She noticed!" he yelled with an overexcited giggle. Noah tried launching himself at me over Mason for a hug, but (thankfully) his seatbelt held him back because of his sudden movement.
"I'll give you a hug later, don't worry," he said to reassure me, pointing a finger in my direction.
"Oh, that's not necessary."
"Yes, it is."
"No... it's really not..."
"Yes it is, Erin!" he yells at the top of his lungs, crossing his arms and jutting out his bottom lip.
I figure that Noah would not let it go until I agreed with him, so I held up my hands in surrender, "Okay, okay. You win."
Noah slowly relaxes back in his seat, a triumphant grin gradually growing on his face.
