The drive to our destination was anything but silent. After all the chaos (which included me completely disregarding and breaking the rules), Gemma, Jackson and Noah could not stop chattering about the grand escapade that had just taken place.
I was honored with the passenger seat this time, since I had been "the mastermind behind our thrilling escape". I had no problem with this, it just meant I could hide my worried expression from the three in the back.
"We have to do this more often!" Gemma laughed "Was I the only one who got a rush of adrenaline when we bolted down the bleachers?"
Gemma was giggling happily. Noah was bouncing in his seat (which was obviously annoying Jackson, although he kept his mouth shut), Jackson was smiling and staring at Gemma with a look of adoration.
Finally, Mason couldn't stop the smile from forming on his lips as he glanced back at his friends in the mirror.
At least they're enjoying themselves, I can't say the same for myself. What if they figure out it was me? I'll have to face the consequences for breaking the rules, and the school will get my father involved. I'll surely be dead if Robert gets a call from the school about me!
I zoned out, staring at a giant blue building as Mason parked. It had a huge sign which said 'King Strike's Bowling Alley' in flashing yellow lights and a small parking lot that was empty of all vehicles except ours.
The trio in the back launched themselves out of the truck in fits of shrieks and giggles, sprinting inside the building. Mason and I on the other hand, took our time to get out.
"Hey... you okay?" he asked nonchalantly, leaning on the hood of his truck. My head snapped up to him, surprised that he was asking if I was alright.
Or maybe I was more surprised he noticed that I wasn't.
"Oh, yeah," I laughed, plastering a smile on my face, "why wouldn't I be?"
Mason didn't look convinced in the least, but I didn't give him any time to question me further as I rushed into the big blue building. As the door shut behind me, I was struck with the scent of buttered popcorn and cotton candy. Long wooden platforms that led to big metal contraptions with white sticks lined the side of the room. Along the back wall sat a couple giant metal boxes with stuffed animals locked away, as well as a vending machine.
