" being scared is part of being alive. accept it. walk through it "

- Robin Sharma

"He... what?" my voice cracked.

"He's out of jail, Erin," she sighed again, "and the last place he was spotted isn't far from Casey Park. You guys need to get home and fast."

"We don't have the truck, Jackson does!" Mason says frustratedly, "Gemma, I have to go. I'm gonna call Jackson to pick us up."

Mason hung up before quickly dialling another number, standing up to pace back and forth in front of me. I slouched back into the bench, my mind completely blank. I could hear him speaking urgently over the phone to Jackson, but I was zoned out in my own world of denial.

"Alright, Jackson is on his way. Come on, let's go stand by the road..." Mason says, grabbing his bag. He turned, expecting me to follow him, but I didn't move.

"Erin?" he said, his face turning soft as he realized I was absolutely terrified.

"No, it's okay. Everything is fine. Robert didn't escape, that's impossible," I shook my head, keeping my eyes trained on the grass, "Gemma's just playing a prank... yeah, that's it..."

I continued spewing excuses, attempting to convince Mason that this was a ridiculous idea. Although I didn't realize that all along I was really just trying to convince myself. Mason crouched down in front of me, placing a hand on my knee as he stared at me with such an intensity I almost looked away.

"You and I both know that's not true, Erin," he said softly, gently grasping my arm and tugging me to my feet, "now let's get you out of here."

I nod, following Mason to the sidewalk where Jackson was going to pick us up.

"Jackson was already on his way to get Gemma. He's not far so it shouldn't take him long," Mason informed me softly.

I nodded silently.

Minutes passed where Mason just stood there, staring down at me with a calculating expression. After five minutes of this, I turned to him with a glare and snapped "What are you looking at?"

He didn't look fazed even slightly at my harsh attitude. "You" was all he said.

"Well obviously" I scoffed, looking back out at the road with a glare. My anger quickly melted away though, when I realized how I was acting. I sighed, "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, you're allowed to be upset," Mason shrugged.

"Yeah but I can't take it out on you, that's not fair," I said tiredly. Mason opened his mouth, most likely to say something about how it's okay or to try and comfort me, but someone else spoke before he could get a single word out.
