~Delilah's POV~
I had PE last period. I looked down at my schedule and sighed in relief when I realized this, as it meant that I didn't have any more classes after PE was over. I suppose there could be worse classes to end the day with.
A little smile graced my lips as I walked down the hall, making my way to the gym. I slipped in through the door and then realized that there was nobody in here, making me frown. Everyone must've gone into the locker rooms already to change. I guess I should do the same.
I turned around and walked into the girl's locker room, the sound of several girl's voices filling the room as they chatted with one another like it was a party. Humming, I headed to the locker number I was given and took my gym clothes out of my bag, beginning to change into the light pink shorts and white t-shirt. I stuffed my clothes into the locker and slammed it shut, turning the dial so nobody could open it, before I left the locker room and headed back into the gym.
Coach Heath, a woman who had mocha colored skin and short black curly hair, smiled at everyone as she held a clipboard in her hand. She directed everyone to their assigned spots, and I realized that she had made it so we were sat girl-boy in our rows. I sat down in my spot, which was closer to the door that lead outside, and shivers ran up my spine at how cool the floor was. It wasn't until I looked back towards Coach Heath that I saw who she had assigned to sit behind me, making my jaw drop in surprise. That new boy.
I blinked in surprise as I looked at him, not expecting to have PE with him since I hadn't had any other classes that he was in. He looked at me and I blinked up at him, half expecting him to glare at me for hitting him with the door earlier. However, he just raised a brow and sat down disinterestedly, making me realize that he didn't seem to recognize me at all. I honestly wasn't sure whether or not that was a good thing, but I convinced myself it was better that he didn't remember anyways. Not wanting to stare at him, I awkwardly turned back around and looked down at the floor, stretching my legs out in front of me as I inspected the scratches on the glossy looking hardwood. It wasn't relevant at all but I found myself wondering what had caused these scratches.
"Okay!" Coach Heath chirped as she walked up to the front where we all faced the wall, having finished assigning everyone their seats. "We're going to be doing some light warm ups and then you all are to run laps around the court for ten minutes." She said, gesturing around the border of the basketball court that we were sat in the middle of.
We all stood up and began to do what she wanted us to, starting with toe touches before working towards jumping jacks and then sit ups. Once we finished that we all got up from the floor after our sit ups, and I frowned as everyone began to run laps before me. I began to jog awkwardly, feeling a little bit like a loser for being the only one that didn't have a friend to run with. My mind wandered as I jogged, not necessarily paying attention and yet still mindful of where I was going so I didn't run into anyone. "There you are," A familiar voice huffed as they popped up beside me, snapping me out of my thoughts. To my surprise, I found Tate was there when I looked over to see who had joined me. "Hey!" I grinned, a feeling of relief rising in my chest. I hadn't known he was even in this class with me. Maybe I needed to pay more attention.
"Hey, Dell." Tate chuckled and kept running beside me, the both of us falling into a comfortable silence whilst we ran. It took too much energy to talk and run at the same time.
When the ten minutes was up, Tate and I came to a stop, both of us breathing heavily. More so me than him, to be honest. Tate actually worked out and was rather athletic, whilst I was the exact opposite. I never worked out unless I had to, like I did just now. "Where's your spot?" I asked him, brushing a strand of my hair out of my face. He pointed to a spot a few rows away from mine and a couple spots back, making me pout. "Dang it." I grumbled, disappointed that he wasn't close enough for me to talk to.
