Slow, dizzy, agony. My vision was blurred in the moment, a tall white mech covered in energon gore stepped through the green and blue portal, and I... I was finished. I gazed down for a moment at my chest, lower breast deliberately soaking a large chunk of bark lodged in it with my fresh energon. I threw my helm back, groaning, gold optics dim in the dark light of midnight.

Through ringing audio receptors and blurred vision I could make out a semi truck, a blue and red semi truck.

"Lockout!"

The large mech towered over my dying frame, attempting now to aid me. He cursed. The Prime's apatite blue orbs became vacant from emotion, lips drawn into a frown. He let his fingers graze along my cheek, delicately brushing hair from my face. The evidence was here. He was silent for a moment, a deep anger in him I hadn't seen before.

"I'm sorry... this is my fault." Our optics met for a moment. "Let me help you."

"Let me die."

His optics spoke silence, too struck for words.

"You shouldn't even be here. You sent that goddamn truck. You think you can care and aid me now you know my secret-" I coughed, choking for the rest of my words. "Only now am I an important cause."

"That's not true. You are important, but it's not just that, you can feel it too."

"You know that is the most dangerous thought to have. The most dangerous idea right now in general."

Optimus was attempting to figure out how to get the bark from my body, and it made me nervous.

"We can't love, Optimus..."

His optics screamed so many words, so many melodies. "It's unfair."

It was that, the concern, his spark being torn apart, everything. He was everything. He wasn't just there to love me, but he understood everything. We are supposed to be enemies, but Primus decided us a different fate that we have to refrain from. If we don't... it could get everyone killed at this moment. Unfair wasn't even the correct term.

"I know this situation isn't ideal." The mech started to remove my chest plating, embarrassing for both of us, painful for just me. It was a rough solution, a rough situation. He should let me die...

"None of it is..."

He told me to look at him, the nervous panic came back. "Lockout."

"You're gonna break my focus."

"Look at me."

I did as told, fear plastered all over my face, it should've been shockwave. It should be him to help me, not this... perfect... something.

"Have I told you that the gold of your optics is stunning at this time of night? Absolutely gorgeous." -And he ripped the bark out.

"FUCK!" A loud, agonizing scream erupted from my vents, the tears flowing at extreme. Optimus's hand clamped over my mouth, the other covering my new gash with a large cloth.

"Lemons."

"I-I'm sorry?"

"Your optics are like lemons."

It had been about an hour since the mech patched up my wound, he had carried me into a nearby cave so our signals couldn't be reached. It was easier to let me rest.

"Are you feeling better?"

"I'm not bleeding." His gaze was stern, not ready yet for sarcasm. "But I am kinda weak I guess."

He ran a hand through my hair. "You should try to rest."

"I can't, Optimus. I won't be able to for a few days." I thought for a moment, letting my helm rest on his shoulder. "How did you find me?..."

"Oh... I uh..."

"You put a tracker on me?!" I moved away from him in distress and anger.

"Not at all! I was nervous about sending Ironsteel, and I went out for a drive nearby to try and clear my head. I guess I was too close and I... may have heard you..."

"Then why do we continue to cross paths?"

"The first time I helped you was when Starscream almost killed you, I was originally looking for megatron, but my problem was is that I saw a potential... not an ally but someone with more to come in their life. I couldn't leave you."

Our optics met for a moment, I couldn't tell if he was lying or not.

"It was an odd feeling. I felt as if I have purpose around you, something strong. It's as if Primus wants me to protect you."

"How are you supposed to protect me if we are supposed to be enemies?"

"I don't know, Lockout. I don't know."

Musty... dark... there was still a single light on in the lab, the one that never went out. The strong scent of chemicals hit me roughly, my sealed wound aches, gold optics yawning. I required sleep and reassurance.

"I told you I'd wait for you." A deep voice rumbled behind me.

"I thought you'd be resting by now."

"I couldn't sleep, I wanted to wait for my sparkmate."

"That's sweet of you, shock."

"Only to you."

"Is it illogical to be nice to someone else?"

"Very."

"I see." I hugged the mech, desiring sleep. I felt my body leave the ground as the mech picked me up. My helm rested gently on his shoulder. Rest... Was shockwave talking? Just rest...
