[Flashback - Shortly before Nice Lapis joined Little Homeschool.]

Mean Lapis: That Lapis, yeah, her power’s something else... I'll give her that. But...

[She doesn’t even bother to glance at the brochure Steven had handed her earlier. Instead, she rips it apart, the pieces fluttering to the ground like falling leaves. She watches them drift with disdain.]

Mean Lapis: She’s pathetic. Could do anything with all that power, and yet she chooses to lower herself to a Pearl’s level. snickers Just plain pitiful, don’t you agree, partner? *laughs coldly* Just plain pitiful, don’t you agree, partner?

[She turns to Nice Lapis, expecting agreement, only to find her completely absorbed in her own brochure she’s holding, her face lit with curiosity and wonder as she reads about Earth.]

Mean Lapis: Are you... are you serious right now? You’re actually reading that garbage? *reaches for it* Come on, give it to me!

Nice Lapis: *pulling back* No! You’ve got your own.

Mean Lapis: I said, GIVE IT TO ME!!!

[In a sudden burst of anger, Mean Lapis snatches the brochure from Nice Lapis’ hands, the paper ripping slightly as she yanks it away.]

Nice Lapis: Hey! I was reading that!

Mean Lapis: Oh, please. Like it matters. You really think any of this stuff is worth paying attention to?

[Nice Lapis opens her mouth to respond, but before she can utter a word, Mean Lapis tears the brochure in half, the pieces scatter in the wind like dead leaves.]

Nice Lapis: Why... why did you do that!?!

Mean Lapis: *snickers* Come on, you can’t actually buy into that whole "you can be better" nonsense, right?

Nice Lapis: Maybe... maybe it’s not nonsense. I mean, how would you even know if you don’t give it a chance? I actually thought some of that stuff was... kinda cool. Like, dancing. I didn’t know something like that could be fun.

[Mean Lapis freezes for a moment, her mouth hanging open in disbelief. Then, she bursts into loud, mocking laughter, doubling over as if she can’t contain herself.]

Mean Lapis: What?! Dancing?! That’s what got you? You’ve gotta be kidding me!

[Nice Lapis flushes, her cheeks turning a deep shade of blue. She looks away, her gaze falling to the ground as the mockery sinks in, cutting her deeply.]

Mean Lapis: You actually think that’s fun?! What a hoot!

[Still chuckling, she wipes a tear from her eye.]

Mean Lapis: Wow, I can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard

[As the laughter dies down, she glances at Nice Lapis, her expression shifting slightly when she sees the hurt etched across her face. She tentatively places a hand on Nice Lapis’ shoulder, but the touch feels empty, hollow.]

Mean Lapis: Oh, come on, don’t look so bummed out. I just did you a favor.

Nice Lapis: A favor?

Mean Lapis: *smirking* Yeah! If I hadn’t torn that thing up, you’d have ended up on Earth, a total laughingstock when everyone heard you rambling about this nonsense. I saved you from making a complete fool of yourself; thank me.

Nice Lapis: *muttering* Yeah, thanks for laughing at me instead.

Mean Lapis: *irritated* What was that?!
