{Lina}

WHEN JASON'S LANCE BROKE, Lina figured they were truly fucked.

The battle had started well enough in Lina's opinion. Her and Jason alternating attacks, working as a unit as though they've been fighting together their whole lives. She knew they had the upper hand, the giant's lumbering movements slowing him down significantly.

In an impulse move, Lina tilted her saber catching a few rays of sun that managed to peak through, and angled the reflection towards the giant's eyes. Successfully blinding him, Lina gestured to Jason who understood her message at once. Jason's javelin managed to pierce the thick dragon hide, and golden ichor—the blood of immortals—trickled down the giant's clawed foot.

Enceladus bellowed in pain and blasted him with fire. Jason scrambled away, rolling behind the giant, and struck again behind his knee.

It went on like that for seconds, minutes—it was hard to judge. As Lina instantly took Jason's place on the offensive, Jason distracting the giant enough for Lina to get in a few more cuts. When she backed up, she frowned seeing as how, although there was damage, it didn't seem to deter him much.

As Enceladus's spear kept playing whack-a-mole with the two of them, the two teens tried to dodge faster, but the ground stuck to their feet. Making them impossibly slow which Lina absolutely hated, her lip curling as her glare sharpened.

"Stop being a such a freaking, female dog. Gods, you mad annoying bruh, boutta off myself just to get away from you. Wait, no I can't do that ahahah, for legal reasons that was a joke." Lina mumbled under breath as she kept dodging, her limbs growing weary.

At this point the giant seemed to be getting faster. He had been anticipating both Lina's and Jason's attacks and they only seemed to annoy him further.

"I'm not some minor monster," Enceladus bellowed. "I am a giant, born to destroy gods! Your little gold toothpick can't kill me, boy."

Jason didn't waste energy replying. He seemed like he was already tired. Lina did, she couldn't help it. "Shut the fuck up, blegh your face makes me sick."

Jason raised his javelin to block the giant's next strike—a big mistake, fortunately Lina's instincts made her bring her saber up to help block, unfortunately Lina had moved a tad bit late. They managed to deflect the spear but it still managed to graze Jason's shoulder.

To Lina's surprise Jason backed up and she couldn't help but snicker as he almost tripped over a burning log.

As Jason kept moving Lina furrowed her brow slightly confused but she figured he had a reason for his actions so she moved with him.

"The mighty Jason Grace," he taunted. "Yes, we know about you, son of Jupiter. The one who led the assault on Mount Othrys. The one who single-handedly slew the Titan Krios and toppled the black throne."

Lina blinked, surprise on her face as she glanced hurriedly at Jason.

"And of course, how could I forget Lina, little Lina. You always seem to pop up when prophecies are bad and heroes need you the most. I see your curse will never be lifted. You are now, however, a shell of your true self. Pity, I will need to kill you before you awaken." The giant's voice held mock sadness.

Hearing this Lina turned her head so fast she was sure her neck should have been broken. Her mind working overtime as she tried to process what the giant had said. Shell? Pop up? Awaken? Curse? These words swirled around her head.

"What are you talking about?" Lina faintly heard Jason ask.

The giant breathed fire and that was enough to shake Lina from her brooding thoughts. She squealed as she barreled into Jason, pushing him along with her as they both narrowly dodged the flames. If that wasn't bad enough, the two burst into a coughing fit as they inhaled the smoke and ash.

Jason pulled Lina back, the latter still finding it hard to see as the giant's spear cleaved at the ground between the two.

Jason and Lina scrambled up.

Maybe if Lina had Percy's cool water abilities than one big wave of water would push the giant over the edge, but of course the girl could only dream.

Lina then felt Jason take her hand, squeezing it once. He had a plan, it probably wasn't a good one but it was as good as none. Then she felt his finger subtly tap on one of her charms on her bracelet.

Her bow and arrow charm.

At this Lina's face wrinkled, she wanted to refute and tell him there was no way she was gonna stand back and shoot stupid arrows while he risked his life up close.

Jason as if sensing her growing anger, squeezed Lina's hand again trust him, it seemed to say.

Lina glared at him but nodded, stepping back as her fingers closed around her charm before a golden bow materialized in her hands. Taking an arrow from her quiver, she took a deep breath before nocking the arrow.

One last try. Jason charged.

Enceladus let him approach, grinning with anticipation. At the last second, Jason faked a strike and rolled between the giant's legs. He came up quickly, thrusting with all his might, ready to stab the giant in the small of his back, but Enceladus anticipated the trick. He stepped aside with too much speed and agility for a giant, as if the earth were helping him move.

Lina let the arrow loose, seeing as it flew towards her opponent.

He swept his spear sideways, met Jason's javelin—and with a snap like a shotgun blast, the golden weapon shattered. The arrow sinking into the giant only seconds after a tiny boom barely being heard.

The other explosion was hotter than the giant's breath, blinding Jason with golden light. The force knocked him off his feet and squeezed the breath out of him.

Lina quickly let another arrow loose. Again it hit the giant.

When he regained his focus, he was sitting at the rim of a crater. Enceladus stood at the other side, staggering and confused. The javelin's destruction had released so much energy, it had blasted a perfect cone-shaped pit thirty feet deep, fusing the dirt and rock into a slick glassy substance. Jason wasn't sure how he'd survived, but his clothes were steaming. He was out of energy. He had no weapon. And Enceladus was still very much alive.

Lina's third arrow flew but this time the giant caught it, it created a small explosion in his hand. The giant blinked surprised.

Jason tried to get up, but his legs were like lead. Enceladus blinked at the destruction, then at the arrow that had been in his hand and laughed. "Impressive! Unfortunately, that was your last trick, demigods."

Enceladus leaped the crater in a single bound, planting his feet on either side of Jason. The giant raised his spear, its tip hovering six feet over Jason's chest.

"And now," Enceladus said, "my first sacrifice to Gaea!"
