Sasuke tucked the folder of profile information on the Hidden Sand estate that Kiba had passed to him into his coat pocket. As soon as his foot hit the sidewalk, he dug into his pocket and called his brother. Naruto picked up on the first ring. "Sasuke?"

The clouds swirled overhead, casting everything in grey. "Naruto, I need you to find Hinata and get her to your place."

"What? Why? What the fuck is wrong, you don't sound like yourself."

"Naruto, damn it, please," Sasuke begged, hailing a cab. "For Christ's sake, just don't ask questions and do it. She's not safe."

"No shit," he laughed humorlessly. "Neither are you right now. Where are you?"

"On my way back to my place to pick up some things," Sasuke explained, slamming the taxi door shut. "I promise I'll explain it all once I get to your place. Just get Hinata there first, and text me when she's safe."

Naruto was only silent for a moment. "All right," he said, "but you have to explain to me everything- and I mean everything, bro."

"You've got it," Sasuke said. "I'll see you."

"Bye," Naruto replied, and hung up.

Sasuke blew out a sharp breath. "Fuck." Staring at the passing buildings, Sasuke tried to steady his nervous heart.

Guns and ammunition freshly stocked, Sasuke jogged up the steps to Naruto's apartment building. It was a simple place, inexpensive but clean, and didn't attract much attention. Perfect for Naruto's line of work. Quickly getting buzzed in, Sasuke hopped up the steps two at a time. Naruto had sent the confirmation text only moments ago, and was ready to make sure it was true. Thankfully, the moment the door opened to the apartment, it was Hinata who greeted him. "Thank God," he breathed.

Hinata pulled him down into her arms, the thick knit sweater she wore scratching his nose as he hugged her. "Sasuke, what the fuck is going on?"

Sasuke pulled back, shutting the door behind him. He locked it, and turned to Naruto. "Thanks Naruto."

"Sure thing," he said, hopping off the counter where he sat. "Now then, what Hinata said." He crossed his arms. "What the fuck is going on?"

Sasuke sighed, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "It's a long story. It all really comes down to Hinata and I."

Naruto rolled his eyes. "Not shocking. What did you do?"

"I... told Orochimaru about us."

Hinata slapped him across the face quicker than either male could register. "You WHAT?"

Naruto quickly grabbed onto her shoulders and held her back as she tried to smack Sasuke again. "Easy, girly. But honestly Sasuke, I kind of agree with her. That was dumb."

"Actually," Sasuke chuckled nervously, "we kind of made a deal."

Hinata relaxed from Naruto's hold, looking confused. "Wait... you did?"

Sasuke nodded. "He wants me to play hitman for a night. I'm taking someone out for him. High profile. If I can pull it off, he'll let you go."

Hinata's eyes shined with a strange kind of affection. "Sasuke... you'd do that for me?"

Sasuke cleared his throat shyly, blushing as Naruto raised a brow to him. Reaching out meekly, Sasuke grabbed onto Hinata's hand. "Of course I would."

Hinata smiled, and hugged Sasuke around his waist. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, resting his cheek on her hair.

Naruto smiled warmly. "I'll give you two a minute. Sasuke, we still have some things to talk about first." Naruto walked back to his bedroom and shut the door.

Sasuke looked down to Hinata, who was already tilting her head upward to meet him. "Hinata," he said somberly, while stroking her cheek. "There's something else."

She nodded, tugging him closer. "Okay."

Sasuke sighed through his nose. "I have a bad feeling that Orochimaru doesn't want me to succeed. Well, he actually told me so. But anyway," Sasuke continued, "I had Naruto bring you here to keep you safe in case things go south."

"And if they do go south?" Hinata chewed on her cheek nervously. "What then?"

"We run," Sasuke said frankly.

Hinata shook her head, blinking and pulling away. "Wait, what? Just like that?"

"Naruto and I both have supplies for something like this," he explained. "Cash, weapons, IDs, you name it. Naruto can keep you hidden until I can get to you, and then we'll take whatever we can carry and start new."

Hinata laughed mockingly. "It's all going to be so simple."

Sasuke sighed, reaching out to her. "It's not going to be easy, but I'll do anything to be with you. I love you, Hinata." Sasuke put out his hand for her to take or deny. "Will you come with me?"

Hinata stared at Sasuke, searching his eyes for any shimmer of doubt. There was none. Just an open hand, and a promise that Sasuke was ready to deliver. She smiled, shrugging. "What if we crash and burn? What if it all goes wrong?"

"Baby," Sasuke smiled, pulling her into his arms. "You know us. We'll last."

Hinata grinned, and pressed her nose to Sasuke's. "As long as I'm with you, I'll risk anything."

Sasuke breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "That's my girl." And he kissed her.

When Naruto came back out into the living room, Sasuke and Hinata were sitting at the kitchen counter. "So then," Naruto said, eyeing the guns laid out on the surface, "what has your evening got in store, Sasuke?"
