Secrets

"I said come out here whoever you are!" the voice yelled.

I didn't know whether to go and have to explain what happened or to run.

Hope I have enough energy.

I decided on running, not wanting or feeling comfortable enough, to explain this to my family or even Xavier.

"Pulsate et quiescant" I whispered, not wanting to draw attention to my location.

"Pulsate et quiescant " I repeated.

For some reason, it wasn't working.

Does that mean..

There had to be a witch protecting him.

Here goes nothing.

"Totis viribus dejiciat." I whispered, using more power than I had ever dared to try.

"Totis viribus dejiciat."

"Fuck! W-what the h-hell?" he spoke as his voice started getting fainted with each word.

I dashed out the door as quietly as possible and walked back in like nothing happened.

"Mom, dad? What the hell happened? Where are you guys!?" I feigned innocence in the situation.

I heard muffled words and screams from the kitchen and I walked towards it.

"Oh my god! Are you guys okay?" I ran up to them and untied them.

When I untied Xavier, my finger touched his hand and I got shocked.

He must've felt it too because he looked at me but I guessed it was just static so I shrugged it off.

Xavier and I untied everyone.

"What happened?" I asked mom and dad as they rubbed their wrists, I'm guessing from the rope rubbing on them.

"I got home before anyone and saw the house like this. I looked around and asked if anyone was around but before I could hear a response, I blacked out," my dad said, rubbing the back of his neck as he remembered what had just occurred.

"Next thing I knew, I was tied up here with your mother. They Xavier came and then they injected him with something instead of just hitting him." my dad finished.

"Xavier?" I looked up at him.

"Uh, I-I don't know. They were being sloppy I guess. I wonder how they fell." Xavier's voice started getting fainter towards the end then he looked at me weirdly.

I quickly looked away. I don't know why I did, it's not like he could read my mind and find out.

"It's okay. We can just call the cops and stay at a hotel while our house gets fixed." I suggested, putting my hand on my mom's shoulder.

"Yeah. Great idea sweetie." she gave me a small smile and I returned it.

I felt bad that I wasn't here.

Wait a minute, why didn't I sense it?

Whenever something bad is about to happen to me or any loved ones, I get like this weird feeling. Sort of like a sixth sense? I really don't know how to explain it. I just know it when I feel it.

Have I not linked them?

Oh god, please tell me I linked them.

"Um I'll be right back." I quickly ran up to my room and locked it, not wanting someone to intrude on my spell.

I brought a piece of paper and wrote everyone's name that I cared about. I also added Xavier and Harvey because they're friends of the family.

I went in my drawer and found a small blade and grabbed some candles.

Perfect.

On the paper, I cut my hand and let the blood drop in the middle.

"Occurramus omnes in unitatem." I closed my eyes and spoke.

"Occurramus omnes in unitatem." I repeated.

I've been home, not even a month, and I've used more power now than in the four years I was in California.

"Occurramus omnes in unitatem." I spoke again.

I could feel and hear the candle light up.

It's working.

"Occurramus omnes in unitatem." I spoke once again.

I repeated the words until the fire died out.

I looked at the paper and my blood had spread to everyone's name. We were all linked.

This doesn't mean that whatever happens to one person happens to all, no. For me, whatever happens or is about to happen to a person I'm linked with, I feel that sixth sense.

" I washed off my hand and put some alcohol on it and placed a bandaid on top. Then I cleaned up and it was like nothing ever happened.

I kept that paper in one of my drawers. Now in everyone's eyes, it's just clothes, but to me, I see all my magical objects and spells.

My grimoire.

I ran my fingers through my spell book and a small smile appeared on my face.

I'd missed it.

Missed magic.

Missed spells.

Missed the power I felt.

"Danielle? Are you okay? You've been gone quite a while." I heard my dad yell from the bottom of the stairs.

"Um yeah! Sorry dad, coming." I yelled back.

I closed the drawer and left my room but not before giving it one last look to make sure everything was okay.

I went downstairs and saw Jax.

I ran up to my brother and hugged him.

"Hey Ellie, are you okay? Did anything happen to you." He kissed my hair.

"No," I shook my head. "I found mom, dad and Xavier tied up when I got home. The guys were just laying on the floor." I told him.

"Thank god," he whispered and kissed my hair once more.

I pulled away from him and turned to my parents, "So what now?" I asked them.

"We've already spoken to the cops. They're gonna come get them and then they'll have this place cleaned while we stay in a hotel. It should be about a few weeks, maybe months." my mom leaned into my dad as she spoke.

She was more scared than she wanted us to know or think.

"It'll be okay mom." I smiled at her and held out my hand for her to grab, which she did and she gave me a smile back. "Thank you sweetie."

"Pack up your things and meet up at The Lounge." my dad said.

"Wait is Xavier gonna be staying with us?" I looked up at him.

"Yeah," he just nodded.

"Okay." I went upstairs and packed my stuff. I went into my drawer and saw the grimoire.

I picked it up and put it at the bottom with an invisibility spell.

I have a feeling that this isn't over.
