Chapter XI

Happy Birthday

"Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you Danielle! Happy birthday to you!" I heard everyone singing as they woke me up.

I got up and turned towards them with a smile on my face.

"Thank you guys so much!" I loved my family so much.

"Make a wish dummy." Jax said before bringing the cake closer to me.

I rolled my eyes and made a wish before blowing out the candles.

"Now get out so I can get dressed." I smiled getting out of bed.

They all left and I went into the bathroom to shower and brush. I went with a spaghetti strapped white dress that was about mid thigh with a small slit on the side and paired with some black sandals.

I left my room and went downstairs and nobody was here.

Where'd they go?

"Surprise!" I jumped back in shock as multiple people jumped out from different spots all over the living room and kitchen.

"Happy birthday." They all wished me as they made their way to me, hugging me.

"When did you guys have time to plan this?" I asked my mom and dad.

"We've been planning this since the hotel scenario happened." my dad smiled coming over to hug me.

I squeezed him and just rested my head on his chest. "Thank you guys. So much." I smiled looking at them.

"Of course." my mom smiled before joining in our hug.

"I have to go pick up Xavier, his car broke down somewhere." Jax rolled his eyes before kissing my forehead and leaving.

"Where's Allison?" I asked after Jax left and my parents and I stopped hugging.

"Oh uh- Well see- she- she said she had to go do something yesterday but texted that she'll be late today." My mom scrambled over her words.

"Oh that's fine." I smiled.

Now the party was getting started.

The DJ was playing music.

There were snacks and drinks out.

People were dancing.

We were having fun.

Then, in came Jax with Xavier.

Xavier stared around with murderous eyes before landing on me.

Oh god. What the hell is going on?

I quickly went up stairs to my room. I wanted to splash water on my face but I wasn't wearing water proof mascara.

"Danielle?" I heard Xavier and my whole body froze.

For some reason, I just wanted to go towards him and just hug him. I had never felt that way before. And not about him.

He came into my bathroom and his eyes locked on mine.

A loud growl emitted out of him, "Mate!" he yelled at me.

"What are you talking about?" I asked trying to move away from him.

"Mine!" He wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me towards him.

He shoved his head into the crook of my neck, just inhaling and I could feel his breath on my neck.

"Wait a minute, mate!?" I questioned trying to get out of his grip, but it only tightened.

His head shot up and he looked at me.

His look, the way he was looking at me, I didn't know if I liked the effect he had or if I hated what he could do.

"Fucking hell." He breathed out, breaking our intense stare.

Mates...

I gasped as I realized that I was his mate.

He's the Alpha so that would make me.. Luna

"N-No." I stuttered as I looked up to him.

"No? No what princess?" he looked down at me.

Oh god his eyes..

"I can't- I can't be y-your Luna." his eyes widened as he realized I knew about werewolves.

"And why not?" he growled.

"I- I just can't!" I told him.

He removed his hand from me and I immediately felt cold and before I could stop it, I whimpered at the loss of touch.

His eyes darkened but then he closed them. When they opened, it was just his normal blue color.

"Whatever" he left the room and my heart clenched as he walked away.

"Xavier.." I spoke quietly after he left the room.

I didn't know why I was feeling like this.

He had always just been a friend of my brothers that I knew.

And now I had unexplainable feelings for him.

Feelings he can explain.

I walked downstairs and Jax looked at me with sad eyes.

"Are you okay? What happened? Xavier walked out pissed." He asked as he came over and hugged me.

I nodded, "He told me I'm his mate." I explained to Jax.

"Oh" he simply said.

"I told him no and he just left and now it just hurts." I explained as best as I could, on the verge of tears.

"That's the mate bond. You hurt him and now both of you are hurting. I know he seems bad but he needs you. Just as much as you'll need him. He's supposed to be your other half." Jax comforted me, explaining the mate bond.

"You seem to know a lot about it. Have you met your mate?" I looked up at him and his eyes lit up and he smiled, "Yeah. She goes to same college I did."

"Did?" I asked. "When I joined Xaviers pack, I left college." he shrugged.

"Now stop trying to change the subject and go look for your mate." he smiled at me and I nodded.

I left the house after telling my mom and dad where I was going and they just said okay and let me go.

I got in my car and drove off to a secret spot of mine to help find Xavier.

I really hope he isn't mad.
