~Nobody helps him, they just turn their heads~
Black Sabbath(edited)
Waking up from my nap, I still couldn't believe where I was. Brooklyn. Brothers. New life. Perfect bed...
I could hear voices from the room next to mine. Laughing, amused voices. So there were indeed people in the house. I couldn't recognize Aiden's voice and that was making me feel nervous. I couldn't understand why if I want to be honest. Maybe it was the fear of the unknown. Or the worry of seeming ideal to them. What if I didn't fit in? What if they didn't like me? Do I need to change into something more formal? Ugh, where have my parents gotten me into?
Having nothing else to do to wash the negative thoughts away, I opened my phone to scroll through Instagram. I hadn't opened it for 18 hours, since I got to the airport. Completely unlike me. I opened my phone only to see 14 missed phone calls and 26 unread messages.
And the realization hit me. Valeria! I had completely forgotten to tell her what had happened these past two days. I clicked on her name and waited impatiently.
Beep
Beep
Be-
"Που στο διάολο είσαι?" her worried voice almost drilled my ear from her shouting. (Where the hell have you been?)
"Ο Χριστός καλέ Ρία, ηρέμησε!" I giggled at her reaction. (Jeez, calm down Ria!)
Valeria and I are best friends since 4th grade. At first, when we saw each other, we hate each other. One day, in the 2nd grade, when I was going to get into the class, she banged the door in my face. I was crying for 30 mins after that. Or one other day, when she was trying to sit on her chair, I pulled it behind and she fell on her butt in the middle of the class. And she got very angry... Jesus, this girl is so scary when she's angry... But then, one day, the whole class was against her due to a bitchy girl who said to the kids something too bad to be mentioned. And I was the only one who tried and kept her company. That's how our story began...
Some people may think Valeria is a bad person, with all the meanings of the word... But I know her better than anyone else. I know that she is not cruel, bad, or mad. Some people are even scared of her. That's her shield against the world. Valeria is a softie around her friends. You may or may not trust me but life has been cruel to her too. That's why she is sometimes acting like that. If everyone could see how sweet, caring, and amazing she is, everyone would love her and no one would be afraid of her...
We were talking for about an hour. She seemed too shocked about the latest news in my life, and I don't blame her. Anyone could have been. I told her about the flight, the awesome car, my huge new bedroom... I wish she was there and we could share all those...
I was about to tell her about the mystery noises next door when a knock echoed in the room. "Α γαμώτο, το ξέχασα! Πρέπει να πάω για δείπνο! Θα τα πούμε αύριο, φιλάκια, αγάπη!" I hung up before she could say anything. A little rude, I know, but I didn't want whoever was at the door to see her. Never show any weakness. And Ria was a weak spot of mine indeed... "Oh crap, I forgot! I have to go for dinner! We'll talk again tomorrow, kisses, love!"
"Come in!" I invited whoever was at the door. Thankfully it was Aiden. Even though deep inside me I wished it was someone else... At least someone who had the decency to come meet me. But no!
My brother though didn't say a word. He just offered me his hand. After all, Aiden was a gentleman as we said before. I gladly took it, I wasn't going to lie. I didn't want to show up alone in front of five unknown men. Stand there under their interrogative gaze. Try not to fidget and play it off confidently.
