Chapter 6

“Morning.” Brian said as I sat up, rubbing my eyes.

“What time is it?” I mumbled, looking around the room. “Where the hell are we?”

“It’s half past 9. We have to help Grandma garden in 30 minutes. We’re in Michigan. Are you hungover?” Brian raised his eyebrows, pulling socks onto his feet.

“I had one beer.” I replied, rubbing my eyes. “I’m not hungover.” I sighed, swinging my legs over to get out of bed.

“Sorry, you’re usually hungover on Saturdays.” Brian shrugged, standing up.

“What are we doing again?” I asked, stretching out my arms.

“Gardening. With Grandma and that Carly girl.” Brian repeated.

I just looked at him, frowning.

“Kick off is at noon, we’ve got time.” Brian added, knowing what I was thinking.

I nodded, standing up from my bed.

I heard the door open downstairs.

“Hello darling!” My grandma said.

“Hey Lorraine. Ready to get to work?” Carly added.

A smile crossed my face as I pulled a pair of jeans up my legs, my fingers automatically doing the belt as I was still half asleep.

“You look hungover.” Brian said, crossing his arms. “You sure you’re not?”

“Brian. I had one beer. I hold my alcohol better than getting hungover on one beer. I’m just tired.” I rolled my eyes, pulling a Longhorns t-shirt over my head.

“You need shoes.” Brian said as I walked towards the door.

I swore under my breaths as I grabbed a pair of socks.

I pulled on my timberlands and followed Brian down the stairs.

“Good morning! Do you boys want some breakfast?” Grandma asked sweetly.

“Ooh yes please.” Brian and I said enthusiastically, sitting down at the kitchen table with Carly as Grandma gave us each a plate filled with eggs, bacon, and toast.

“Thanks.” I grinned, taking a big bite of the eggs.

“You look hungry.” Carly laughed.

I nodded, trying not to talk with my mouth full.

“He’s always hungry when he’s hungover.” Brian laughed.

I glared at him, swallowing the food.

“I’m not hungover.” I rolled my eyes, putting some more eggs on my plate.

“Sure you aren’t.” Brian laughed, raising his eyebrows.

“Oh my Gosh literally I had one beer and then I fell asleep and you were in the damn room!” I exclaimed, getting annoyed now. “I’m not about to be that loser who gets drunk on their own.” I rolled my eyes.

“Oh really? Like that one game last year against-”

“And we don’t need to bring that up.” I snapped, taking another bite of my breakfast. “Because I could very well bring up that game when you and Jessie went to-”

“Don’t talk with your mouth full.” Brian said, looking down at his plate as his cheeks turned red.

“Exactly.” I mumbled, shaking my head.
