Chapter 17
“Let’s go do something.” Carly said excitedly as I walked into my room.
Brian was with Jess, having been with her since right after practice.
I’d come straight home and showered, and now, Carly was sitting on her knees on my bed wearing my sweatshirt.
“Now?” I raised my eyebrows. “Nothing fun will be happening tonight it’s a Thursday.” I shrugged. “Everyone’s got school.”
“But we don’t. Brian doesn’t. Let’s go out with him and Jess. I still haven’t met her.” Carly said, raising her eyebrows.
“Call him while I get dressed.” I said, tossing her my phone.
I half listened to Carly’s conversation while I pulled a pair of jeans up my legs.
“He said okay. He’s meeting us at the diner. He said you’d know where that was.” Carly said as I pulled a t-shirt over my head.
“So get dressed let’s go.” I laughed, raising my eyebrows at her.
Carly giggled, rolling off of my bed.
“Katie’s nice.” She told me, pulling my sweatshirt over her head.
I was slightly disappointed to see that she was wearing a tank top underneath and not just a bra.
“Oh boy.” I sighed, shaking my head.
“So what exactly happened between the two of you?” Carly asked. She was trying to sound nonchalant, but I could tell she was dying to know.
“Katie was that stereotypical girl that’s head cheerleader, homecoming queen, prettiest girl in school, shit like that. We were at a party one time, pretty drunk, and somehow the topic came up that she was head cheerleader, I was starting quarterback, and we ended up hooking up. And we just kept hanging out and stuff and I thought that I was developing feelings for her. We were going to make in official, next thing you know, she’s knocked up by that dick Kent Jackson.” I muttered.
“You really hate that guy don’t you?” Carly laughed, raising her eyebrows.
I rolled my eyes. “He thinks he’s the shit and he thinks he’s the best quarterback in the world and he thinks he freaken deserves everything.” I muttered. “I’ve hated him since middle school and him knocking up Katie was just the icing on the damn cake.”
“You know she feels really bad about it and-”
“Carly, okay, I love you and all but please don’t try and tell me about Katie, I’m done with her shit, and if you want to hang out with her that’s fine. But honestly she’s out of my life and seeing her today just emphasized the fact that I have no feelings whatsoever for her anymore.” I sighed, bending down to pull a pair of socks on my feet.
Carly was staring at me with wide eyes as I stood back up.
“What?” I frowned.
She didn’t move, and I realized what I’d said.
“Oh my...” I whispered, running my hands through my still-wet hair.
“Did you just-” Carly whispered, playing with her fingers.
“I’m sorry I mean that-”
“Brian and Jess are waiting for us.” Carly said quickly as she grabbed her phone and walked out of the room.
“Holy shit.” I whispered, feeling like I was going to be sick.
What kind of moron tells a girl that he loves her after less than three weeks of dating?
