Chapter 18
“Where’s Carly?” Dane asked as I parked next to him in the back parking lot of the football stadium.
I shrugged.
“I woke up at noon and she was just leaving. I think she’s with Jess or something.” I shrugged, getting out of the truck.
“You two still haven’t talked about it?” Brian raised his eyebrows at me.
“Shut up.” I muttered.
“Haven’t talked about what?” Nick asked curiously.
“It’s nothing.” I muttered, opening up a beer.
“Jason told her he loved her and now she’s not talking to him.” Brian laughed.
I glared at him.
“I said it’s nothing.” I snapped. “I don’t go telling everyone about your private shit with Jess so don’t go telling everyone my private shit with Carly.” I said, leaning against my truck.
“Chill, sorry.” Brian muttered.
“I heard Kent got himself a black eye.” Austin commented.
“Oh really? Good for him.” I laughed, sliding my bruised hand behind my back against the truck.
“What happened to your face?” Austin asked curiously, raising his eyebrows at me.
“I slept in Brian’s bed last night because he wasn’t there and Carly was in mine, and his is on the opposite side of the room so when I rolled over, thinking I was about to the wall, I fell out and smacked my jaw on his night stand.” I replied with a shrug, taking a sip of beer.
“Lemme see your hand.” Dane said, pulling it out from behind my back.
I sighed as he examined my bruised knuckles.
“He egged my car in the middle of the night okay? It took me like an hour to clean this afternoon.” I mumbled, pulling my hand back.
“After all of this anticipation for a fight and all you did was give him a black eye?” Dane raised his eyebrows.
“Carly was standing right there I wasn’t exactly going to cause any serious damage with her watching.” I said, taking another sip of my beer.
“Hey by the way want me to mow the lawn after church tomorrow?” Brian asked, raising his eyebrows.
“I did it today.” I replied.
“Okay then. I’ll do the-”
“I did everything we had to do.” I replied with a shrug. “Everything is clean and the house is totally set to be left alone for however long until we come back.”
Brian raised his eyebrows.
“By yourself?” He asked in shock.
“Well you weren’t there and I was bored and I didn’t know where Carly was so I started cleaning my truck and then I cleaned the garage and then I mowed the lawn and did the leaves and cleaned the backyard shed and by that time I was in the groove so I did some cleaning inside then I took a shower and came here.” I shrugged.
“Damn I’ll hire you to clean my house one day.” Dane teased.
“I mean I do think I’d look pretty sexy in a maid’s outfit.” I said with a straight face, causing the guys to crack up.
“Well we’ve got to get in there now... We’ll see ya’ll after the game.” Dane said as the team started to get their bags to go into the locker room.
