She couldn't remember when and how she managed to make it back.

Sitting on her bed, Fuka stared blankly at the pill case - the tiny box that belonged to Aido, which he had given to her. along with all the tablets inside.

This medicine will save me...?

Taking one out from the case, she let it roll around on her palm.

It was a tiny, white pill that looked completely like normal medicine.

Known as the 'blood tablet', this experimental pill was supposed to be able to inhibit one's transformation into a vampire.

Vampire.

A monster that sucked human blood.

And I've... turned into something like that...

She hadn't been aware of it at all, and she still didn't believe it.

"What's going to happen to me...?"

Her fingers clenched tightly around the pill in her palm.

Aido had not embellished the truth. He had told her what would inevitably happen to humans who had been bitten by purebloods.

The irony of the situation now filled her with fear that she would one day become like that man. Her original excitement at being saved by Aido was all but forgotten.

Level E. That would be her ultimate fate one day.

How would she feel, when she eventually lost herself?

Would she run indiscriminately after her friends and the people around her, attack them and suck their blood?

Even as she acted on her vampire instincts to satisfy her blood thirst, she was sure that she would be screaming inside her heart.

That she hadn't wanted to become a monster like this! That she'd wanted to live as a normal human being!

"... ngh!"

But Fuka thought it was decent of Aido to tell her frankly that this was a fate she could not fight against. It was definitely a lot better than letting her turn into a vampire without even realising it.

He could have chosen to keep her in the dark, to deceive her, or to lie to her.

"The seniors were all born vampires..."

According to Aido, all the students in the Night Class were vampires. And that was not all. They were among the rare handful of vampires who made up the ruling class, from Kaname, who was a 'pureblood', to Aido and the others, who were part of the 'noble class'.

Below them were the normal vampires, and right at the bottom were the vampires who used to be humans, where the Level E - which stood for 'END' - vampires belonged. The ruling class even dictated the lives and deaths of those so-called Level Es.
