Mark raised an eyebrow at his friend, who pulled a face in response. They were at Donghyuck's house after school, and Donghyuck had been in the middle of running through his debate cases when his mom had come in to scold him about his chemistry grade - and to say hi to her other "son" Mark, and to tell them that they, meaning her and Mr. Lee, were going out for the night. "Dongsook, Dongyoon, and Dongsun are at a friend's, so the both of you behave."
And with that, she was gone, calling for Mark to please tutor her son. Mark laughed and said he would, and Donghyuck groaned, knowing Mark would actually tutor him.
"So what's your grade in chem?" Mark asked, and Donghyuck dramatically threw his papers aside.
"Fine! Don't listen to my debate about the benefits of fully nuclear energy! We'll talk about chemistry!"
"So it's a solid 77 I'm guessing from your reaction." Mark teased, and Donghyuck's mouth dropped.
"Seriously?"
"What?"
"No, you're right."
"How in the world did you let it drop that low?"
"I tried but I couldn't memorise it," Donghyuck muttered, and Mark nodded thoughtfully. "Usually I can, but I don't know. It was two tests, and the teacher doesn't have a lot of grades this quarter."
"Do you have a retake of them?"
"In a week for one, in two weeks for the other." Donghyuck finished picking up his papers, and slumped a little. "I really don't know what happened."
"Let me see it." Mark held out his hand, and took the papers Donghyuck found in his backpack. "Solids, liquids and intermolecular forces. Properties of solutions and solutions. I can definitely help with this. Do you have your notes?"
Donghyuck took out his notes too, and sighed. "Do we have to do this?"
"We can't have you failing, so yes, we do."
Donghyuck made a loud noise of "I don't want to do this," but Mark ignored him in favour of looking at the notes instead. "Hyuckie, your writing is so pretty," Mark said affectionately, and looked up to see his best friend smiling widely.
After Hyuck had gotten drunk, there had been maybe five days of awkwardness, but Mark had eventually dismissed Donghyuck's actions as drunken craziness - though he knew his best friend was undeniably honest when he was drunk.
He just didn't think he could believe it. The Lee Donghyuck - popular, in theatre and debate club, class clown, pretty much the junior class's adopted baby, would even think of him as more than a friend.
But he knew he was definitely, kinda, in love with Donghyuck. Everything he did made Mark's heart go wild, and he swore he didn't stop blushing around him. Even now, as Donghyuck whined a little and flopped like a dying fish, Mark couldn't stop thinking about how adorable he looked."Okay," Mark said, drawing out the last part, and Donghyuck looked up from his little tantrum. "Let's divide and conquer then."
"And that means what?"
"Today, we make dinner as we watch a movie after homework. And tomorrow we'll actually get started on studying." Mark smiled, and Donghyuck sighed in relief.
"Thank god. You're not evil."
"Hyuck, it's a Monday. Even I'm not studying." Mark laughed, and Donghyuck tackled him into a tight hug.
"You're amazing Markie!"
"I'm just not making you study today!" Mark laughed, still hugging his best friend back. "You need to get your homework done first though."
