CHAPTER ONE!

The shower water began to turn cold. I sighed. My muscles had not yet relaxed from the stress I have been having and I was tense. I turned off the water and reached out of the shower for my towel. I wrapped it around my body and stepped out onto the freezing cold tiles. I rushed onto the bathmat and hopped on the spot. Winter was a pain when it came to showering. I rubbed the fresh Goosebumps that had appeared on my arms with my towel trying to dry myself quickly. I dropped the towel and pulled on my gray long sleeved top. It grabbed onto my wet back making it difficult to put on. Once I had finished struggling I pulled on some black skinny leg jeans and my black flats. I was feeling emoish today. I wiped the steam off the mirror and grabbed out my make up bag. I put on some eyeliner and mascara on and walked out of the steamy bathroom. Cold air hit my face and I shivered. My body had not yet warmed up. My bedroom was a mess and my mum will probably have something to say if she comes up but I most likely won't be here, and she will leave a nice angry message on my phone that I can easily delete. I stumbled over to my wardrobe and grabbed my purse. I looked around my room which had changed dramatically over time. From a pink painted room with dolls and teddy's to a dark purple painted room with clothes scattered everywhere and unfinished homework on the desk that was never touched. I wasn't the type of girl who followed rules and came to school on time. I was a girl who stayed home and watched horror movies and texted her friends until she had no credit. I did my homework and stuff for school and work but just not on time. I walked out of the room and down the stairs.

Mum sat at the kitchen table with a cold cup of coffee in front of her. She had obviously been up for a while. Yesterday was my mum's 43rd birthday and she had a party that I organized. She had got madly drunk and passed out hanging upside down on the kitchen counter. She was such a teenager on the inside. It was weird because she was meant to be the role model. So much for that thought. Whoever came up with that has obviously never drank a drop of alcohol before. She was wearing the clothes she had worn that night but her dressing gown was wrapped around her loosely. I opened the fridge and grabbed out the milk and poured myself a glass. I pulled back the kitchen chair making it squeak against the floor. My mum sat bolt upright and squinted. She put a hand to her head and winced. She had a hangover. I snickered quietly and sat down drinking my milk.

"Oh, my head," my mother moaned. She looked down at the table trying not to see all of the light. She didn't agree with light when she had a hangover.

I put a hand on her back and rubbed, "Well, that is the consequences of a party with alcohol."

"Never again, never ever again," she mumbled putting her head back onto the cool table. I almost laughed at her but I didn't.

"I'm going to work now, ok," I said getting up and putting my glass into the sink, "Is there anything you want me to do before I leave?"

"Yeah, turn back time to before I drank nearly that whole bottle of vodka," she said waving a hand goodbye to me over her shoulder. I couldn't help this time but laugh. I heard a slurred hiss which made me laugh harder. I finally stopped and went to the front door. I grabbed my thick black jacket from the hook and put it on. I grabbed my white beanie and yanked it over my head. I immediately felt much warmer. I opened the door and locked it behind me. I didn't bother taking the car, it was only a 20 minute walk and I was in no hurry.

My feet crunched over the fresh white snow. I smiled. I loved winter and this was the best part of it. I shoved my hands inside my pockets and trudged down the street. I saw a few kids playing in the snow. They were building a snowman but it had only started to snow and there wasn't enough to go round. I missed being a kid, going out with mates and coming back dirty and getting scolded at. Planning what to do the next day when you were finally aloud out. Maybe not such a good thing being scolded but the rest was awesome. I walked past them and a snowball collided with my side. Since it was just soft snow it mostly fell apart before it touched me. I turned and saw a young boy staring at me with eager eyes. He wanted a fight but I was only going to give him a little satisfaction. I bent down and scooped up a handful of snow and packed it in tight. Now this one was going to hurt. I stared at the boy again and he realized it was going to hurt so he and his mate ran behind a truck parked on the side of the road. I dropped the ball and it stayed intact. It really would have hurt. I continued down the hidden sidewalk. I could see my misty breath escape my lips and disappear into the freezing air.

I finally got to the little cafe where I worked. I opened up the single door and walked inside. I shook of my jacket, snow falling off it and onto the floor. Thank god my boss didn't see that. I hung up my jacket on the hook with my beanie. There were a few customers that had come in early for a quick coffee and snack before their work started. A regular sat up at the counter holding a mug of steaming coffee in his hands. It looked like he was trying to warm them. I walked behind the counter and pulled on my apron. "Hey, Mark, what's up?"

"Hey, Hayley. Nothing much, the wife kicked me out this morning so she could get some decent sleep this morning," he said, his voice muffled by his short but bushy beard.

I laughed, "Snoring again, huh." I grabbed the jug of fresh coffee and filled up his glass.

"Yeah, I keep complaining about her snoring, so she threw me out." I laughed, his wife did seriously snore and I felt sorry for him. His wife was mean to him and always put him down. But he loved her, so he stayed. This cafe was his only escape from going completely insane.

"Oi, Hayley! Stop annoying the customers and get back to work. You are already 5 minutes late!" Mr. Pierce, my boss, said angrily from the small kitchen behind me.

"Yes, Mr. Pierce," I called back with a huff.

"He really shouldn't yell at you about the small things and you don't annoy me, you are the only one that actually talks to me without criticizing. You are a valued employee who should get a raise." Mark said pointing a tanned finger at the kitchen.

"Well, you should tell him that because he doesn't listen to me."

My shift started at 7am and ended at 12:30pm. So I got the breakfast and brunch and some of the lunch. It had been a long day and my shift was about to end. I had a lot of customers who couldn't just order something simple from the menu; they had to say they wanted extra or smaller portions or none of this or more of that. It was a never ending cycle of hell!!! I had 15 more minutes left on the clock and it was going slowly. I wasn't even watching it. Ok....I was. A customer called me over so I put down my sponge that I was using to clean a table and walked over grabbing a notepad and pen out of my apron.

"Good afternoon, I am Hayley and I will be your waitress. Would you like me to tell you our specials for today?" I said in my most cheerful voice. I only did it so my boss didn't fire me.

I looked up form my pad and saw that my customer was hot. And when I mean hot I mean smoking hot or gorgeous or perfect. I almost gasped. The young man had dark brown wavy hair with brown eyes and a dazzling smile that could make any girl weak at the knees. His arms were muscular and standing from where I was I think he had a six pack. I saw his lips move but I didn't hear a word, I was distant. I snapped out of it when he started staring at me funnily. I think he was holding back a laugh.

"Umm, sorry, sort of zoned out there. What did you say?" I said putting pen to paper again.

He laughed quietly and it was like music to my ears, "I would like to have a coke for starters then a cheeseburger and fries, thanks," his voice was one of an angel. I sighed after I wrote down his order.

"Anything else I said looking at him again?"

"No thank you," he said politely slumping in his seat.

I smiled at him and walked away. Wow, he was hot and I so liked him. But I wouldn't have a chance and I didn't know him. Why would a hottie like him ever take a second glance at me? I walked back behind the counter and pinned the order onto a peg. I tapped the bell for an order.

Five minutes later I picked up the hot guys order and walked it to his table with a smile. I placed it in front of him. He looked at it and smiled at me. I almost melted. "Thanks!"

"No probs" I said walking back to the counter. I served a few more customers when the hottie called me back. He took out his wallet and handed me a twenty.

"But the meal and drink only cost $15 altogether." I said confused.

"Yeah, the other 5 bucks is your tip," he said.

"Cool, thanks; I didn't think I did that good of a job to get a fiver. Most people only give me spare change."

"But you deserved it." The young man stared at me. "Can I have your number?"
