The moment we walked into the Great Hall, I could hear audible gasps coming from many students. The hall was illuminated by floating candles along with the torches placed on the wall. Four long tables spanned vertically from the foot of the hall to the head where another table was place horizontally. Students dressed in assorted colors were seated in all the tables while the professors sat at the very front.

"This is just so exciting," Lena whispered excitedly next to me while clutching my sleeve. Alex and Claire were standing in front of us whispering among themselves. Claire then turned to me and I could see she was just as excitedly nervous as us, "Oh my don't you think this place is ethereal."

"Yeah," I said just above a whisper. McGonagall then began leading us to the head of the hall and we all moved to stand before the Sorting hat rested on a stool. The tension in the air was building up by the second and no one could croak a sound.

Dumbledore made a quick speech about the rules and places we were forbidden to go to before the sorting ceremony started. McGonagall then began by calling names and I hardly paid attention until the name Malfoy was called out. I glanced at him as he smugly walked up as though he knew exactly what the hat would say.

Before the hat was even on his head it bellowed, "SLYTHERIN." I watched as a smirk spread across his face as he headed to his designated table.

"Kara Pheonix!."

I whipped my head back from the boy to the stool at the front. With as much confidence of a Pheonix that I could muster, I made my way through the first years to the very front. I sat down and I gulped hard as the hat was place on my head.

"Strange, smart ,dedicated but resourceful. Pristine qualities a Phoenix should hold......hmmmmm........SLYTHERIN!"

Lena cheered as I made my way to the Slytherin table . I couldn't tell if I was particularly happy about being here or if it was just the nerves. Strangely enough I seemed to have unexpectedly made my way to sit down a couple of seats to the right and front of Malfoy. He looked at me and I simply smiled expecting him to return the gesture but he ignored me and turned around. Ignoring him, I listened as my friends were called for their turn to be sorted. Lena was sorted into Hufflepuff and I waved at her as a couple of Slytherins looked in disgust. I shot a cold look at them and they backed down.

Alex was placed in Slytherin like me and she sat down next to me while Claire was sorted into Ravenclaw and she had already begun making conversation with her peers.

"It was no surprise Lena was placed in Hufflepuff. I mean she basically screams it and I've only known her for a while," Alex chuckled.

"Oh yeah she's practically nice to anything that comes in her path."I said while right before us, with a clap of the headmaster's hand , an abundance of food appeared before us.

Minutes passed and a darkly dressed man handed us our class schedule with a disgusted look on his face. I learned that his name was professor Snape and that he wasn't the nicest guy around.  I took a good look at my classes and skimmed over the core ones until my eyes landed on the words Flying. I felt my confidence creep up again as I remembered all those times I had flown over the country with my father. My mother hadn't been to keen at the fact that I would indulge in such extraneous activities and she would often scold both me and my father after our travels. Not to many people knew about our early morning trips since it wasn't exactly allowed. I was just happy that I could show off my flying skills to the rest since I had already acquired much experience.

I brought myself back from my ego trip just in time to notice that we were heading to our common rooms. We made our way through endless corridors and turns and soon enough we were down in the dungeons. The Head Boy and Girl then explained where we were at and how to get here and what password was required to enter the dorm room. The Head boy turned around and said Pure blood ,making the common room appear before us.
