It was very obvious that the young Phoenix Flynn wanted me to kiss her. Her body language, facial expression, it said it all. I did feel bad, I hovered over her body for some time, I knew she probably thought I might kiss her. I didn't show up to shadow her schooling the rest of the week, and I did donate more than enough money to specific locations to her school, so everything was equal.

I sent her a gift as an apology, maybe I hurt her feelings. It was something I never did. I had gotten her a rather pricey text on special educational terms, a complete works of it. I thought it was both useful, and thoughtful.

I had been at work for a week or so now, busier than ever. I was not pleased. Sometimes you had to crack the whip, I had to fire three people, which I did not enjoy doing. I didn't like taking peoples livelihoods away.

I was walking through my building, Donna on my heels, carrying my coffee and brief case.

"Mr. Horan," I was greeted by someone. I nodded in their direction, since I was passing by. I walked to my office and Donna set my coffee down, then my brief case besides my desk.

This past week I had a lot of details over my stock to look into. I wasn't sure if I was selling or not. I was studying the profit margins for some time, staring at the board in my office so I could physically see the numbers, not just on a screen. I was tapping a pen to my lips when my phone rang, meaning it was either Donna or someone on my preapproved list for calls. I had her filter out the waste.

"Mr. Horan I have a Phoenix Flynn who is rather insistent on speaking with you. Should I put her through?"

"Yes." I heard the line click. "Niall Horan.

"Niall? It's Rose,"

"Phoenix, it's good to hear from you. I trust Mr. Jacobs told you about the donations?"

"He did, thank you so much. The girls I coach are so excited for basketball uniforms."

"I'm glad to hear it."

"I wanted to ask you where you want the book mailed back."

"Back?"

"Yes, I cannot keep such an expensive and over the top gift. It was very thoughtful, thank you very much I loved it but... where do you want it sent back to?"

"I have no use for such a book. Therefore you should not send it back."

"You can return it."

"I... lost the receipt."

"Liar."

That pissed me right off. No one calls me a liar. Who did this girl think she was?

"Phoenix I do not want that book mailed back. I bought that for you. If it's a matter of cost then don't worry about it. I have it completely covered."

"I'm sure you can handle it but it makes me uncomfortable. I want to return it."

"Why are you so argumentative? I want you to have it. Please thank me and end it."

"Why did you send it to me in the first place?"

"I suppose it was an apology gift."

"Apology for what? Not showing up that week?"

"A few reasons."

"Niall cut the crap, why did you get all weird after the coffee shop? You disappear and then you mail this expensive book?"

"Keep the book Phoenix."

I hung up and walked around my desk, smoothing my tie out. I went back to my stock portfolio, calling in a few of my partners in the business.

"I want to keep it." I said after a long while. 'I think it could grow."

"It's a big risk, a 10 million dollar risk Mr. Horan."

"Isn't it fun?" I smiled. "Thank you for your input."

"Any time sir."

He walked out and I took a sharp breath, going right back to other work. I wasn't going to get run down, I wasn't ever going to stop. I'd only work harder and harder, till I owned this city. I looked out the window, which was basically all the walls but one. I stared out at this city, wanting it more than anything.
