Waking up a few hours later was one heck of a struggle. Although, it was actually the perfect start to your dreaded birthday when you were greeted by the loving screech of Felix, who perched in his cage, his wide amber eyes pleaded with you to be let out so he could stretch his wings.
"Good morning my beautiful birdie." You say to him sleepily, rubbing your half open eyes and yawning.
You opened the latch on Felix's cage, letting him clamber onto the top of your hand. He was heavier than he looked so you had to concentrate on keeping him steady as you brought him to the window which you opened for him to set off for his morning flight.
You stared out into the beautiful purple and blue plethora of dawn.
To start your birthday off, you decided it would probably be nice to go out for a walk, it would also help ease your mind of the inevitable occurrence that Voldemort would summon you for your very first meeting at some time today. Turning 18, definitely had its downers.
You put on a white cotton shirt, leaving the top two buttons undone. And slipped on a dark green sweater vest, tucking it into a black tartan tennis-style skirt with some thin black tights.
Heading out of the castle, you felt the September breeze as it chilled the top of your rosy cheeks. It was still early for a Saturday morning, so you were able to enjoy your walk free from any other students. As you walked across the uneven path down the hills of the castle grounds. You looked out to see the smoking chimney of Hagrid's hut, and his impressive patch of enormous pumpkins.
Weirdly, you saw someone walking away from the hut, someone who wasn't really the type to go to Hagrid's for a cup of tea, especially at this time of the morning. It was Snape, and he was heading straight for the forbidden forest. You decided to follow him into the forest, the trees casting a dome of darkness around the pinecone-ridden ground. Through the many towering trees, you made a conscious effort not to trip over any roots or stumps, your incognito stalking going pretty well...that was until a twig snapped underneath your foot, making Snape freeze in his tracks.
"Why is it you're always somewhere you're not supposed to be White?" He muttered, his back turned to you. It was as if he knew you were following him the whole time...how embarrassing. He slowly turned around, an unimpressed look on his face.
"Guess I was just curious as to why you were coming from Hagrid's. I didn't know you were friends." You replied, coolly.
"He needed some herbicide potion for the weeds in his garden. You shouldn't be here, it's dangerous." He said taking out an empty vial from his robe. He bent down, and that's when you noticed the upturned carcass of an acromantula, to which Snape extracted venom from its pincers.
"Woah...I've never seen an acromantula before!" You explained, a little grossed out yet extremely perplexed. "How did it die?"
"Hagrid said it was just natural causes...this one is only a small one compared to the rest of the ones that live in here." Snape said, which made you shudder. The one before you was about half the size of you, yet for a creature as creepy as a spider, it was too big. You definitely did not want to meet any larger ones.
"I think I'm going to leave you to it sir" you said turning around as you started to sneak off.
"Wait." Snape beckoned, making you turn back around. "You haven't forgotten about today's meeting have you?"
