The year is 2054, and people including the scientists had built emergency systems into all the buildings that automatically activate every night. They also built special glasses to wear every night. Why is that? Because of a terrifying event that they fear; the Moon. Nobody knows why the Moon is affecting them like possessing them, hurting them or even killing them.

My name is Alexa Helen Cooper and I'm a scientist and an astronaut of NASA. I am 27 years old and I'm tall, skinny and I have dark brown hair and glasses. I'm also a very smart person just like everyone.

I was driving my mother back to her apartment in Lasker City, West Virginia and everything is just okay for the two of us. My mom turned her head to me and asked, "Alexa? Can you stop the car for a second, please?"

I wanted to look back at her but I couldn't because I need to keep my eyes on the road while I'm driving.

"Okay. Why?"

"I need to buy some groceries."

I nodded and parked the car in the parking lot close to the entrance of the store and watched as she stepped out and inside the building. While I waited, I took out my phone and turned it on to see what time it is. It's 7:48 P.M. and the sky is already dark. I haven't seen a single person being affected as I watched the parking lot. Everything is just fine until the sound of glass and steel crashing erupting across the parking lot and into my ears as I saw everyone looking at something in terror.

I jumped out of my car and went to see what just happened. The doors of the store is destroyed as I walked towards the store. I got closer and closer until I see a crashed car and its nose is right up against the wall and the shopping carts. I saw someone in front of the car so I walked around the car and found a woman. No. It can't be. Her torso and legs were crushed by the car's grill and my tears began to drip out. The store owner already dialed 911 and an ambulance arrived.

"I lost my mother."

I turned to the store's guard and asked, "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me what happened?"

The guard sighed with a reply. "Someone got their goggles off and got affected by the Moon's beam."

I couldn't believe that anyone who looks at the Moon becomes affected. I shake in fear as I shut my eyes in sorrow.

Two days passed and I already got ready for the funeral. I grabbed my keys and stepped out of my house and into my car. I started the engine and pulled away from the driveway and through the street. I was still traumatized by the moment when the car ran over my mother at the grocery store. A few miles passed and I finally arrived to the cemetery and everyone else is here too. There are only twenty of them as I hopped out of my car. The coffin is already set to be buried so I must've missed the prayer. The priest looked at me with his eyebrow cocked up after he read the bible.

"Sorry I'm late."

"Well, that's alright." the priest shrugged, "At least your finally here. So, you got something to say about your mother?" He then pointed to the microphone.

I walked up to the microphone and a memory about my mom's death kept bothering me as I paused for a moment. Everyone is looking at me and wondering if I'm going to say something. They waited until I finally spoke.

"What I know about my mother is that she was a very nice woman who used to cook food for me and helped me finish my homework. I also used to go grocery shopping and on vacation to Florida with her. It was a great time to be with her. And now... I'm gonna say goodbye to her, and I love her."

I stepped away from the microphone and the priest commented, "That is a very nice thing to say, Alexa."

"Thanks."

The staff workers then lowered the coffin into the rectangular shaped hole in the ground as everyone, the priest and I watched. I prayed that my mom will be Heaven and everyone walked back to their cars except me. I stood there for three hours and the workers pour dirt into the hole until it is fully filled and then I turned to the gravestone that read;

"Lillian Sarah Cooper, Beloving Mother; 1982 - 2054"

The vehicles left the cemetery and I sat there and looked up into the cloud-filled blue sky. But, that leaves me wondering: what made the driver go insane? Why do they have a fear of the Moon so badly? What is the point of all this? Sorrow is what shows them the broken side of life. I acted as if the Moon affected me to see what it's like. I hopped into my car and started the engine and drove away from the cemetery as I breathed in depression. Once I arrived at my house, I walked through the front door and then laid down on the couch. All these questions keep floating around in my head as I stared up at the ceiling. The sun is dropping and I turned on the TV to watch my favorite show, Cadavre. The blinds on all my windows automatically close on their own as I continue to watch the show.

A robot entered the living room and saw me and looked at me. "What is wrong, Alexa?"

"I can't get that thing outta my head." I sighed.

"Try to remove it."

"Don't worry, Tha. I'll try."

The robot I own is THA-5000, or "Tha" for short. She has four arms, two legs, a monitor on her chest and a camera for a head. She takes good care of me and always makes sure that we stay safe anytime when we are in danger.

"It is past your bedtime." Tha commented.

"Yes. I know." I nodded, "I just don't know why the guard told me that the driver went crazy under the moonlight and why there are warning signs appearing every night. I need to know."

"These are interesting questions, Alexa." Tha wondered.

"Yeah. Right now, I have to go to bed. Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Alexa. See you at 6:00 A.M."

I turned off the TV and walked upstairs and brushed my teeth. After that, I entered my bedroom and then laid down in my bed. I looked at the picture on the nightstand that shows me (when I was a kid) and my mother. I really miss her so much but get over it.
