His Throne

11 - Mind of a Signal

The voice is calling to me as I wake up from my dreamland.  A man is standing in front of me.

"James?"

He held out something in his hand.  A tube with a food label on it.  I reach my hand over and grabbed it.  It then opened it and slurped the mushy liquid out on the mouthpiece.  It tastes like macaroni and cheese combined with bacon.

"Thanks."

"No problem." James nodded, "I thought you might like to have some in case you're hungry."

Tha has her camera lens aiming at me.  She looks up at the stars in space outside the base and then back at me.

"I am afraid that your friends might be somewhere in the building."

"Then we have to wait." I replied to her.

We sat there and waited for the group to come back.  I couldn't understand what that thing was and is it here but I will find out.  I just have to dig deeper.  We heard a voice call out.

"Hey, James!  How's Alexa and Tha?"

"Oh, we're doing fine, Martin.  Just hanging out here." James waved.

Taichi, Jennifer and Hicpa are also with him.  They were in the cafeteria just like James.

I stand up front the bench.  "Okay.  All ready to go?"

"Yes, we are." Taichi nodded.

We put our helmets back on, stepped through the airlock and out to the surface of the Moon.  We walked around the building and as we're about to go to the rover, it is not here.

"Okay?  Where's the vehicle?" Jennifer wondered.

"I don't know." Martin shrugged, "It was here yesterday.  Did someone took it or something?"

"Maybe we'll just have to walk." I sighed.

We are going for a walk now that our vehicle is missing and it is a long walk.  It's like walking across the country which is gonna take an extremely long time.  I don't know.  The vehicle might be somewhere.  Hicpa and Tha both scanned everywhere for the rover but couldn't find it but they did find something unknown.

"We have found something." Hicpa commented.

"What is it?" Jennifer asked.

"Is it the vehicle we're looking for?" James asked too.

"It is not a vehicle." Tha replied, "It is an unknown source."

I don't know what the two androids are talking about but we begin to follow them.  What kind of signal is it coming from?  Is there really a machine or another building there?  This doesn't make sense at all.  I hope that it will be the vehicle that we are looking for.  It has been thirty five minutes and kept walking until we came to a crater.

"Who could ever live in a crater like that?" Martin laughed.

"I don't know." I shrugged, "I'm going inside with them."

"Be careful." Jennifer begged.

After I nodded, I followed the androids into the crater and to the darkness.  It is so dark that I couldn't see anything far away from me from behind or even on the side.  It must be a cave, I thought as I continued to followed the androids through the darkness.  Hicpa's strobe light suddenly began flashing.

"What's wrong?  What is it?" I asked.

"There is something there." Hicpa warned.

We looked around to see if there is something or someone here.  There could be something but what?  We stood very still and waited.  It just ran across and past the stalagmites.  I don't even know what it is but I start to get a lot of paranoia in me.  As I saw Tha quickly turn her camera head around to me, a hand flew and grabbed me by the chest.  I scream as a struggle to get the thing to let me go.  Tha and Hicpa have attached guns built in them.  Tha has them in her arms and Hicpa has it on top of him.  They aim directly at it and I kicked it's legs.  It lets go of me and Tha dashes into it at full speed with her rocket thrusters on her back.  The beam hits the creature in the chest as she crushes it and greenish-blue liquid comes out.  She stands up and looks at me.  Her chest is covered with the creature's blood.

"Don't worry.  You are okay."

This creature is some sort of a humanoid and it's wearing a space suit just like I am but it's different from mine.  It's face seems to have no eyes and it's mouth looks like a beak with teeth.  Hicpa is nowhere to be seen but I can hear his voice.

"I have found the vehicle.  The antenna is damaged but the vehicle is still functioning."

There he is.  And there's the rover.

"Great job." I cheered, "Come on.  Let's get it started and get out of here."

As I hopped onto the driver seat, Taichi asked through the walkie talkie.

"Alexa?  Is there anything okay?"

"Yeah.  We're fine." I replied, "That guy just attacked me but these two saved my life.  Also, we found the rover.  It's definitely in here."

"Oh, thank god.  Quick.  Bring it here." Taichi begged.

I started the engine as Tha hopped in.  I drove the vehicle through the tunnels until I see the exit with my friends standing there.  They cheered with excitement as I hopped off the seat in fear and they all stopped.  The joy in their faces turn into confusion as they look at me.

"What happened?" Martin asked.

"There was someone in there." I uttered, "It tried to take me away but these androids saved me.  Also, I think it must've wrecked the antenna."

James looks at the antenna on the vehicle that I'm pointing at and then Tha.  "Oh god, Tha.  You really need a wash.  We can do that while we fix the antenna."

We hopped into the vehicle and drove away from the crater.  It's too bad that we can't get the signal to the Moonbase Olympus now that the antenna is destroyed.  Still, I feel traumatized and also paranoid now that I've been touched by an extraterrestrial being.
