14 - The Source

The lights are off.  Everything is so quiet and everyone is fast asleep except me.  I am still awake.  I couldn't sleep because the memories of the place and the creatures.  I just need to know where they are and where the tower is.  The point is that the footage of the Moon did show everything.

I took out my laptop quietly and slowly so that I don't wake them up.  I turn it on and went to YouTube and searched for the video, Skywatching.  It is still here on this website as I clicked it.  I begin to watch the video with the volume turned down and the brightness low.  I change the speed of the video to a zero point twenty five percent so I can see the details of what the Moon in the video has.  The Moon does look like it's alive but it's not.  It's just carved to look like this.  What have they done to the Moon?  I look really closely at the building.  It really does look like a castle, and it's top is pointing directly towards the earth.  This is starting to get more clear as I watch.  What are those canals?  Could these species be the reason that caused the catastrophe on earth?  When the camera switches lens and it's brightness is low, I paused the video to see the gigantic monster inside the Moon.  I don't know what that thing is but my hallucination that I had showed that it was being captured by the extraterrestrials.  What are they doing to it?  I saw something in James' backpack.  Something that can be plugged into a computer.  I sneaked over here and pulled it out slowly.  He moved a little bit and I froze and then he stopped.  I went back to my laptop slowly and plugged the USB stick in.  His file shows up, and it's entitled "His_Call.mp4".  I clicked it and begin to watch.  It is a footage of an astronaut on the Moon with a gopro mounted on the helmet.  I heard a voice.  It sounded familiar.

"Hello.  My name is Lillian Cooper.  I know you don't believe me but I'm going tell you something."

Is that my mother?  It really is!  I start to listen to her voice in the audio as I continue to watch the video.

"When I was twenty five years old, I went to the Moon for an exploration with the other astronauts.  It seems like it's a living being but when I feel it with my hand, it's just rocks and lunar soil.  I was walking alone when I saw something in the distance.  It looked like a giant castle.  None of us knew why this structure is here in the first place."

She enters the cave; the same one before I went.  She walked through the darkness of the tunnels as the audio continues.

"I entered a cave and walked through the tunnels when all of a sudden, I felt like I was being watched.  Good thing the light on my helmet is turned on so I can see where I'm going.  I  ran as fast as I can making sure that there's nothing coming after me.  While I kept running I fell off a cliff and slowed myself down with my jetpack."

What I see is darkness.  I couldn't what's happening until the furry ground and black domes appeared in the footage.

"I didn't even know what that thing is.  It's so furry and it's eyes are like a dome that's big enough to cover downtown Los Angeles.  I heard a voice.  It sounded male.  He spoke to me.  He told me that he needs to get out.  This means that if you help that thing, he will be trapped forever."

Of course.  But, how and where did James get that USB from?  Did he know about my mother?  I clicked off the video and pulled the USB stick out of my laptop.  As I turned it off, I saw a man's face.  He seems to know something.

"Alexa?  Why aren't you asleep?"

"You know about my mother.  Did you?" I wondered.

"No." James shook his head, "I just found it lying there in a ziploc bag on the Moon.  And yes, I met her three times."

"You mean...  She left it behind for someone?" I asked.

"I watched it before.  She referred the beast as a "he" which is a guy but she didn't tell me about it."

"Yeah.  She didn't tell me that either before she died." I sighed, "She seemed to be hiding it, but from who?  You must've watched it."

"Yeah." James nodded, "Well, we have."

I can see what is happening on the Moon and why all these creatures are here.  "If this is true, then we might have to go there and help this creature.  But I'm wondering: what are these machines that the creatures had built?  What are they doing?"

"Maybe we should not go out there." James sighed, "What if there are creatures living there?  What they'll catch us?"

I'm starting to have the same feeling like James does.  What if he's right?  My group did see the video while I was hallucinating but they didn't know that Lillian Cooper was my mother.  I still don't know where the tower is.

"Taichi and I were outside the space station when we were repairing the solar panels but I didn't have my goggles on." James continued, "He did try to warn me when I looked at the surface of the Moon.  What I saw were lights.  Beams that are shooting upwards.  As they touched me, I felt a lot of pain inside me and I passed out.  When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed.  The doctor told me that I was lucky that I'm still alive."

The machines, the beams, the creature, and even the tower.  I'm starting to piece them all together.  I can finally see what the point of all this is.

"We can talk about it in the morning." I said.

"Alright."

James and I went back to bed and slept.
