SUNLIGHT SLITHERED THROUGH the open window, cast in such a way that the ray hit Skylar's face perfectly, shining upon her closed eyes. She was still blissfully sleeping. To be fair, she had always been an extremely heavy sleeper - something that her parents were very grateful for when she was a baby.
Soon, though, the intrusive light became to much of an inconvenience for her sleeping form, and Skylar mumbled slightly, holding her hand in front of her face in an attempt to divert the sun.
When that didn't work, she flipped over to her other side, trying to fall back into the dreamless peace, when the memories of the night before clashed through her mind, causing her to shoot up and look expectantly to where Eleven had fallen asleep.
The spot was empty. It had clearly been left quite a while ago, judging by how still the sheet was. Hoping that Eleven had just been to the bathroom, or gotten hungry during the night, Skylar got up, quickly getting dressed in some paint-stained overalls and trying her hair in a plait down her shoulder.
She rushed downstairs, only to see her mother making breakfast, and her father eating eggs messily, bits flying onto the tablecloth and into his moustache. Skylar tried to hide the panic on her face, sitting down and drumming her fingertips against the chequered cloth, scanning the room.
"Did you sleep okay, Skylar?" Her mother hummed, dropping freshly buttered toast onto a plate and placing it in front of Skylar, who began eating quickly.
"Yeah, why?"
"I heard you moving around a lot, that's all." Skylar's head snapped up, guessing immediately that the noises her mother heard were Eleven, presumably leaving. But why would she leave? Had Skylar scared her? Was it her father? If it was her father, he was giving no indication of it.
Skylar realised her mother was still watching her expectantly, and she fumbled to make an excuse. "Oh, yea, I was just.. really thirsty. Humid."
Her mother gave her a disbelieving look, before turning back to the counter with a shrug, causing Skylar to sigh in relief.
"Shouldn't you be on your way to school by now?" Her father looked at his watch, frowning.
Skylar looked at the time, grimacing and finishing off the square of toast in her hands, before grabbing her messenger bag and sprinting out of the door.
The entirety of her walk to school, Skylar was scouring everywhere around her, desperately searching for Eleven. If she wasn't going to be late for school, she would have definitely spent longer looking for her. She was worried sick about where the girl had gone. Had the 'bad men' taken her back?
Skylar spent the rest of the journey to Hawkins Middle worrying about Eleven, and didn't even notice that she had arrived. The grounds were empty, with no students milling around, and so Skylar quickly ran to her Science classroom.
