THE TRAP OPENED with a snap, causing the six kids to jump back apprehensively. Skylar was stood between Will and Mike, peering down into the small box nervously. Something inside it growled, bouncing around, and Skylar got a searing pain in her head.

Skylar raised her palm to her head, but she noticed Max watching her suspiciously. Sighing, Skylar lowered her hand, wincing against the pain.

A small, slimy creature writhed around in the box, it's tail slapping into the sides. It left behind oozing residue, and it made Skylar take a few steps back. She felt that she recognised it from somewhere, but she couldn't place her finger on it.

"His name is d'Artagnan." Dustin declared, and Skylar barely suppressed a snort.

Dustin lifted him out the box, and Skylar felt a bolt of pain pierce her head as it got closer to her, and her stomach started writhing in fear. Skylar had no idea why she was reacting like this, but Will seemed just as uncomfortable.

"Cute, right?" Dustin asked, and everyone frowned, "He's Dart for short."

"You better not be getting attached," Skylar warned, every muscle in her body wanting to get rid of the slimy creature, to get rid of this feeling of imminent danger, "I don't think you should keep it, I have a really bad feeling."

"And he was in your trash?" Max questioned, looking confused.

"Foraging for food," Dustin murmured, and Skylar frowned, "You wanna hold him?" he asked, and Skylar instantly shook her head, her hands curling inward.

"No, no, no," Max protested, "I don't want to!"

Dustin ignored her, placing the slivering creature into her palms. Max immediately gagged, dropping him over to Lucas, who grimaced. It was passed to Will, who gave it to Skylar, not noticing the tremor in her hands.

As soon as Dart landed on her hand, Skylar felt a painful burning start to spread across her hand, and she gasped, chucking him to the nearest person, examining her hand.

Skylar thrust her hand towards Dustin, forcing him to look at the crimson welt that spread across her palm. "Look," she said forcefully, "This thing can't be good. Trust me, please. I don't know why, but this feels a lot like last year."

Skylar purposefully kept it vague, since Max was still listening, but Dustin just scoffed, "It can't be," he decided, "It's gone. Besides, you probably just had an allergic reaction to him, or something."

Skylar clamped her mouth shut, feeling anger pool at her fingertips. Why had Dustin just dismissed her like that? The least he could have done was hear her out.

Will crept beside her, watching her in concern, "You okay?" he murmured, and Skylar just sighed.

"No," she said after a while, still staring at her palm, "I don't know what it is, but Dustin needs to get rid of Dart." she turned to Will hopefully, "You feel it too, right?"
