AFTER GIVING THEMSELVES a bit more time to prepare and compose themselves, the girls went back down the stairs. Their faces were both slightly red from crying, and each of them looked shaken - but ready.
"She's like a bad battery. You just have to wait." Skylar overheard Mike's hushed voice from the dining room as they walked down the stairs, and guessed he was explaining Eleven's powers to the people unfamiliar.
"But there's something going on with Skylar, too." Lucas said, and Skylar stopped, holding her breath as she listened in.
"She keeps having nosebleeds, like El does." Dustin added, "We aren't sure why - it's only happened a few times."
"It's because I'm Nine." Skylar cast her voice, stepping out from the shadows with Eleven just behind her. "I'm the ninth experiment from the lab."
Everyone watched her in silence, as if they were expecting her to lash out and attack them. When she didn't, they all visibly relaxed, and Lucas send her a reassuring smile.
"Wow," Dustin gaped, ruffling his hair, "So what can you do? Can you flip shit over, like El?"
"No, no, nothing like that," Skylar said quickly, before looking at her feet, "I can heal - but I'm not sure how, or when, or if I can even control it." She started rambling, panicking.
"It makes sense," Lucas nodded, "She woke me up when I hit my head, and then that cut disappeared from her elbow, earlier."
"But then how come she lived in Arizona, and wasn't kept in the lab, like El?" Mike interjected harshly, looking highly sceptical.
"How would I know?" Skylar shrugged, "My dad probably signed my mom up for some kind of experiments - wouldn't put it past him. And then I guess I was used to see how I would react in a normal environment. It explains why I didn't notice my powers until we moved back here, to Hawkins."
"Where it all started." Lucas murmured, locking eyes with Skylar. For once, his were gentle - calming.
"Well, do you think you can help El find Will?" Joyce asked her, pleading almost."
"I- I.." Skylar stuttered, looking to Eleven, unsure, "I'm not sure what use I'll be.. the only way I can think of testing my powers is if someone gets hurt.."
"And besides," Dustin cut in, "We don't even know how we can find him. The radio didn't work."
"The bath," Eleven spoke up softly, "I can find them. In the bath." She turned to nod at Skylar, "She can come with me, too."
Skylar's eyes widened in fear and she said nothing, just nodding wordlessly in reply. She had no idea what this would entail, but if it meant finding Will - then sure.
