See You Again || CHONI

Chapter 6

Toni's pov:

It's been a couple days since that day at the river. Cheryl and I text constantly, sometimes facetime. We do see each other at school, but everytime I ask to hang out with her again she says she's busy, which she is. She's the host of our High school halloween party. It's just a dumb school dance thing that the school does to help raise money for sports and school supplies. I haven't bought a ticket yet, I don't have anyone to go with. I've tried to get the courage to ask Cheryl to go with. I'm just scared she'd reject me.

The deadline to buy tickets is on Friday which is the day of the dance. Today is Thursday meaning I only have one more day to ask Cheryl.

"Are you buying any tickets Toni?" Veronica asked me. She and Betty were the ones handing out the tickets. I guess I hadn't noticed I was just starting in front of the booth with a five dollar bill in my hand.

"Toni? You good?" Betty asked, a little concerned.

"Oh uhm, yeah I'm f-fine"

That was a lie.

"Well do you plan on buying any or..?"

"Uh, I don't..-"

I stopped mid sentence when I saw the beautiful redhead walking down the hallway, clipboard in her hand, walking towards..me?.

"Hello TT, B, V, are you getting tickets?"

I didn't know what to say. I froze.

Should I ask her now? What if she rejects me? Right in front of Betty and Veronica.

I was not in the mood to get embarrassed. I went with the first thing that came to my mind.

"No, no I'm not"

"Oh, why not?"

Shit.

"I-I have a shift. Yes. I have a shift at the white wyrm on Friday. Mhm"

Her smile fainted and she almost looked disappointed.

"Okay uhm, I-I should probably get back to the planning then"

"Yeah for sure"

"Bye Toni"

She smiled at me but I knew that was a fake smile.

"Are you kidding me Toni" Veronica said to me annoyed once Cheryl left.

"What?"

"She wants to go with you!" Betty cut in.

"No, guys she doesn't want to go with me"

"You are so blind" v said.

"Yeah she told us about the river. Why wouldn't she want to go with you? The way she explained it makes me think you two are still in love" Betty said.

"Wait she told you guys?"

"Toni that's not the point! What we're saying is that you have to ask her to go with you and I guarantee you, she will say yes"

I thought about what they were saying. Betty was right too, I do still love her. With all my heart. It's just if she says no then I will be broken. I won't know how to react or feel.

"You guys I can't get hurt again. I can't i-"

I thought I was going to throw up. Just the thought of her not wanting to be with me hurt so so bad. It reminds me of the day she left. I won't feel that way again.
