Chapter 7

Cheryl's pov:

I really wanted to go with Toni and I was so confused as to why she didn't ask me. That is until she said she had to work. I understand if going with me would be weird for her because technically, we're not together. But that doesn't mean I don't want to be.

It's now Friday and the day of the dance. I saw Betty and Veronica packing up the ticket booth. That's when I realized I hadn't purchased any yet. I ran over and stopped them right before they walked away.

"Wait!"

"Oh hey cher" Veronica turned around, Betts right beside her.

"I-I wanna buy a ticket"

"Okay"

I grabbed my purse off my shoulder, digging out a five dollar bill. I handed it to her and in return, Betty gave me my ticket.

"See you in chemistry" Veronica said before they both walked away.

I looked down at my ticket again and sighed.

"Wait" I said again.

"What's up"

I took a moment to think, questioning myself if what I was about to do would be worth it. I took another five dollars out of my purse and handed it to them.

"One more"

I saw them look at each other and smirk.

"Here you are, see you there"

After they left, I looked at the tickets again, tears in my eyes.

Why am I crying. Is it because Toni isn't going? Or is it because I don't think I can without her?

"Oh Cheryl you look beautiful in that dress hunny, Toni's going to love it" my mom said, taking a picture of me.

When she brought up Toni I immediately became sad again.

"Actually mom, I'm not going with Toni"

"Well why not sweetie?"

"Uhm, she had to work" I said, disappointed.

My mom gave me a look of sympathy.

"Then who are you going with?"

"No one, I'm going by myself because I am a strong independent woman" I smiled.

I know I said it, but it doesn't feel true.

"Well I hope you have a fun time"

"I will definitely try"

I heard a honk from outside. When I opened the door, I saw all my friends piled in a van.

"Come Cheryl let's go party!" Archie said, causing me to chuckle.

I made my way over to the car and hopped in by jug and Betty.

"Alright let's get this show on the road shall we!"

"Bye mom!" I yelled out the window.

And there I was. Sitting in the corner of the gym by myself. I knew this would happen. Everyone had someone here with them. I imagined being here with tones. Dancing to the iconic Thriller song, watching Toni dance like an adorable idiot while I laughed at her.

"Hey" Kevin said, sitting next to me.

"Hey, why aren't you with Fangs?"

"He went to get us some drinks. What's up with you?"

I sighed "nothing"

"Well obviously it's something if your sitting in a corner by yourself"

I looked at him and smiled a little.

"It's just, I-I really thought Toni would ask me to come with her"

"Well we're is she?"

"Working"

"Hhmm, maybe you should go ask her"

"What?"

"Just think about, what of she was scared to ask you. Maybe she was scared you would reject her"

"I never thought about it like that"

"It's not too late to ask her"

I thought about for a second. Kevin's right. I could easily just go ask her now. At least if she says no it would be around a bunch of drunk old dudes instead of judgmental students.

"You know what, your completely right"

"Yeah I always am" he smiled.

I jumped out of my seat and hugged him.

"Thanks Kev"

"Of course Cher"

I was halfway to the door when I realized. I don't have a car. I looked around, spotting Veronica and Archie dancing. I quickly made my way over to them and stood right in front of Ronnie.

"Give me your keys"

She looked at me confused.

"Why do you need my keys"

"V please it's a love crisis!"

"Okay hold on"

She grabbed her purse from a table in a corner and handed me the keys.

"Thank you bye"

I didn't hear whatever it was she said when I walked away. I was too busy trying to get my girl.
