Tohru's POV
Senior year crept up on us so quickly this year; summer felt like it lasted a few days compared to last year's! Yuki helped me do some homework over the break, and Kyo started helping me around in the house a lot. Shigure has been spending a suspicious amount of time over at the main house, but I've learned to not ask questions about the estate anymore. Whenever I mention it, Yuki and Kyo both tense up, and they seem afraid. I don't really know what more I can do to help, because well, I'm only me. Everyone says I've done so much but they're the ones that are always helping me.
"Hey Tohru, you look lost, don't tell me your hit your head again."
Kyo. He's always thinking about me and looking out for me. Yesterday we all went out for dinner, and he wouldn't leave my side after a boy our age waved at me. He's so kind to be worried about me.
"Tohru, are you getting sick? What's wrong with you?"
"Oh right! Sorry, I guess I got lost in my thoughts."
"What're you thinking about?"
"Oh, nothing I guess. Just school. Aren't you excited? We're almost there!"
"Excited? More like dreading my existence."
"C'mon Kyo, it can't be that awful! Plus, we get to take a Martial Arts class together! You better watch your back!"
"Like that's a problem, I could beat you with my left pinky."
"What? No way! You really think so?"
Kyo's POV
My future all depends on this next year. If I can beat Yuki. If I work hard, I might have a chance, but he only seems to get more aggressive. I don't know when he got better than me, or why he's better than me at everything we do, but I hate it. If I don't win, then I won't get to keep spending time with her. She doesn't see it, but the way she smiles makes the sun look a little brighter. I don't know when I started thinking sappy things like that. It's probably when I started to realize-
"Hey, stupid cat, it's time for class. You aren't thinking of skipping on the first day, are you?"
"Who the hell do you think you are? If I was, you'd be the last person to know."
"Uh, guys! The bell is about to ring. I think you should stop fighting."
I look at Tohru, and she seems a little worried. I guess Yuki was looking her way too because she seemed startled and waved her hands in front of her skirt, apologizing for being a bother. I couldn't help but crack a smile, she looks like a total idiot. I guess that calmed her down, 'cause a little, embarrassed smile made its way to her face as well.
Yuki's POV
The way they look at each other. It's clear how he feels towards her. Tohru may have no idea, but she feels more towards him than she does towards me, or Shigure, or Momiji. If she somehow does find a way to break the curse, she will end up falling hopelessly in love with Kyo. I don't know that I've ever seen Kyo smile that way, and Tohru has never looked at me with those eyes. All I want is for her to be happy. If that idiotic cat ruins any of this, there will be hell to pay. Not just from me, but from everyone that Tohru has made an impact on.
Kyo's POV
"Alright class, it's officially your final year of high school education. It's the most important year to work on your grades and college applications to make a future for yourself-"
Why does Tohru seem engaged in this conversation. Why would she need fantastic grades if she's just going to go straight into work? I still can't believe that plan. It makes sense, but you can tell it isn't what she wants. I doubt she even knows what she wants. If she just spoke up more she'd-
"Kyo, what are your plans after this year?"
I noticed everyone's eyes on me. Even Tohru's.
My plans? After this year? What the hell am I supposed to say to that?"Uh, well, I guess..."
I paused. I look like an idiot. Some people had already lost interest in the conversation, but Tohru hadn't broken her stare. Just knowing she was looking was making me feel more nervous than before.
"I guess I need to think about it more. That's all. What does it matter anyways?"
Tohru's POV
He must be so nervous after she asked him a question like that. I don't even know if he has even the slightest idea of what will happen even next week. Akito puts a constant cloud of darkness and misery over his head. He really thinks he'll be locked away forever when we graduate. There's no way. I could never- well. How much can I really do? Akito is the family head, and as far as I know, she doesn't care for a single word that I say.
*Bell*
"Hi Kyo! Where's Yuki? We should be heading home now. I'm making a special dinner tonight, along with mochi for all of us!"
"I bet he's just doing his dumb student council stuff again. He'll come home when he comes home, why should we have to monitor his every move?"
"I guess you're right, he'll be back in no time!"
She skipped ahead of me with her smile that never fades. How does she look past my negativity like that? It's like it doesn't bother her at all. Or maybe it does and she's just bottling things up again. You never know with that girl.
"Kyo look! They finished putting up the fence, finally!"
She was beaming with joy, while dragging her hand across the wooden fence.
"What're you doing? Are you crazy?! You're going to have splinters all over!"
I ran up to her and grabbed her hand which startled her to say the least. She started saying some nonsense until I lifted her hand to look at it.
Just as I suspected.
There were splinters all over her hand."Wh- what?! How did I not realize? I'm such an airhead!"
She kept speaking gibberish, with an occasional demeaning comment towards herself until I grabbed her hand, and laced our fingers together. That shut her up at least.
