The poor kid...

I enter the next room to try to find something else to think about. I don't know the supervisor, though. He's tall, and skinny. Blond hair and brown eyes. I love brown eyes. He's probably in his late twenties.

"Good afternoon," he says as he brings his attention from me, back to the computer. I look down at my clipboard, which I still have clutched in my hands.

Room 5: Steve Anderson
Subject: Johnathan Snow

"Steve, right?"

"Yes, ma'am. I suppose you're here to observe."

"Yeah..." I walk over to the window, and take a look at the man who lies on the floor. "Any signs of the Flare?"

"Very few."

"Okay." We stand idly for thirty minutes. I can't take this anymore. "Thanks..."

"Mhm."

I exit the room as I rub my face. I need to do something. Anything! I make my way back to the computer room. "Joshua. I need to go back to battle. It's only day one and I'm already ripping my hair out."

"I'm sorry, McKenzie, but you are needed here."

"Can you at least give me something to do?"

"There isn't anything else authorized to you. You're just going to have to deal with it." There's no hate in his tone, but it still irritates me. "Why don't you observe other subjects, as Newt is doing?"

"I was. It's boring."

"Boring?" He chuckles, "I think not. Science is not boring."

"To you people."

He takes a deep breath, obviously irritated. "Maybe you shouldn't have let your subject go early."

"She needed a break. That's not my fault."

I turn to leave the room, but Joshua lets one last comment in, "You have a good heart, Kenzie."

I stop for a second. Joshua was actually nice. I continue to walk, and act as if the comment didn't surprise me. Although it did. He's a good guy, but I think WICKED influences him too much. He seems to still have that thirst for torture. All of them do. I say torture, and it is, they just don't see it that way.

I walk down the hallway, and see Newt enter the room that I was in just a few minutes ago. I walk in after him. "Are you as bored as I am?" I whisper as we walk toward Steve.

"Apparently not. You're bored?"

"Yes, very."

He shakes his head and smiles as we reach the observation window. The man's body starts to twitch violently, which makes me shiver. "I find it interesting, actually," Newt says as he smiles at me. I smirk back, but he's not helping.

I bite the inside of my lip as I impatiently wait for the man to wake up. I feel the pain in both my shoulder, and my back as I reach into my pocket and grab my remote. I brace myself for the click of the needle into my skin and press the button. I close my eyes as the pain slowly numbs out. Once the pain is gone, I open my eyes to Newt, watching my every movement.

"What?"

"You ok?"

"Yeah." We don't continue the conversation.
