Rhiannon Tate

once we got in the car vinnie took off not telling me where we were going. We arrived in a drive-thru before i could even realize what time it was or where we were he was ordering my favorite meal from mcdonald's.

Yeah i know classy.

i looked up and saw us in the next town over. i smiled at him when he realized i was finally back into reality.

"we drove all the way to kirkland just to get mcdonald's?" i asked. "i was just driving and seeing where we made it.." he said with a smile. i tried to hand him my debit card but he shoved it away.

he always pays when i have rough days. i put my books and notebooks back into my book bag and we got our food. we ate it in the parking lot listening to our best friend playlist that we made like a year ago, every time we have a new song we add to it, so it's forever long. after we ate, we went back to seattle because vinnie had baseball practice.

We sat at my house for a little bit until my mom came home high and told me vinnie had to get out.

I called jason. "hey baby" he said when he answered the phone. i'm assuming he was in a good mood. "hey! did you end up going to school?" i asked. "no i stayed asleep. my mom told me i have to start going to school or else she's kicking me out." he said. i sighed. "you know you can always come stay here." i said. he laughed, "what makes you think i wanna live with you?" he asked. tears formed in my eyes.

i'm so tired of this, one second he's okay and the next he says stuff like that.

"what the fuck jason?" i asked. "what did you just say?" he asked. "why the fuck do you act like this? am i not good enough for you?" i asked. "you are enough rhiannon, i just don't wanna live with you." he said. "then what are we doing? why are we together if you don't wanna live with me?" i asked. "why does it matter? i never asked you to let me move in. i was actually hoping to get my own place. so i can make my own rules." he said. "with what money?" i mumbled. "what?" he asked.

"nothing, look i gotta go my moms yelling." i said. "whatever, bye." he said. "i love-" before i could even finish my sentence he had hung up the phone.

i walked downstairs to see my mom passed out on the couch. Nothing new here, she's just on another high probably.

I started to make myself a snack while my mom was still asleep, I was trying to be quiet but I guess it wasn't working. My mom started moving on the couch, and when I looked over I realized she was moving in a way i'v never seen before.

I walked over there slowly and quietly to see what was happening.

She was having a seizure.

I didn't know what to do in this situation. I lifted her off of the couch quickly and laid her flat on the ground, I rolled her over to her side so that she wouldn't choke, and I called 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" the operator said. "yes ma'am, my mom is having a seizure and I'm not sure what to do, I laid her on the floor and put her on her side. she's never done this before, I don't know what to do." I said. "it's okay honey, you've done the right thing. Is she still convulsing?" she asked. "yes ma'am, its been happening for about 2 minutes." I said. "okay, and what's you and your mom's name? I got your location from your phone, I'm sending help your way." she said. "My names Rhiannon Tate, and my mom's name is Michelle Tate." I said.

"okay sweetie, just keep sitting with her, and tell the paramedics what happened. They'll help her. if anything happens before they get there, you can call back and we can update the paramedics." she said. "thank you so much. " I said with a sniffle hanging up the phone.

I could hear the siren's getting closer. she had stopped convulsing but I couldn't tell if she had a pulse or not.

I tried to shake her and see if she would just magically wake up, news flash: she didn't.

The sirens showed up in my front yard the red lights flashing through the window into my house. I ran to the door, and stepped outside "she's in here on the floor. She stopped convulsing, I couldn't tell if she had a pulse or not." I said.

Two paramedics walked past me, "thank you, we'll try everything we can to fix her." he said with a soft smile.

I looked around the neighborhood, and slowly watched the neighbors stepping out of their homes and onto their porches, trying everything they can to make it seem like they weren't eavesdropping on the situation. my tears were streaming down my face and I started to bite my nails.

What am I supposed to be doing right now? I feel helpless.

I called Vinnie, I knew he was practicing, but if for some reason he could answer right now, maybe he could come to the hospital when he got done. It rang and rang. No answer. I texted him.

call me when you get done with practice pls, it's an emergency.

the next person I called was Jason. it rang and rang, he acted like he wasn't going to answer, and on the last ring, he picked up. "hello?" he said.

"hey, uh-i need you to come to the hospital. Mom just had a seizure and the paramedics are here now. I'm gonna need somebody there for me." I said. "is she okay?" he asked. "no she's not okay Jason. can you please just meet me at the hospital?" I said. "yeah of course, ill be there waiting for you. I love you." he said. "love you too." and for once, he was genuinely nice to me .

as he should be right now.

The paramedics came out of the house with my mom on a stretcher.

"if you want to meet us at the hospital you can, or you can ride with us. but we have to leave now. She doesn't have a pulse right now and we have to get her to the hospital right now if we have any chance of saving her." one man said.

I started to cry more. "I'll ride with you guys." I said. "of course, get you're things. quickly. we'll be waiting." he said.

I ran inside, grabbed shoes and my purse, and ran back out, quickly locking the door on the way out. I climbed in the back of the ambulance and we drove off.
