3rd Person POV
As Y/N made it to her sisters barely breathing body, only then did she notice the fire that was taking over the apartment building.

The fire had been caused by several matches thrown carelessly around the apartment, Harley being the most likely suspect. Speaking of Harley, the man stepped into the room the two girls were in, taking Y/N by surprised as he cocked his illegal handgun, and shot several times at Y/N 's abdomen. As Y/N suffered from pain, he moved on to the younger sister.

Six shots were fired before the young girls breathing stopped, and you could no longer see her shoulders moving to the beat of her ragged breaths.

Y/N POV
"NOOooOOo!!" I chocked out as hold onto Emily, hoping, praying, that she will take another breath. Harley grabs my arm again, and cuts one last word onto my forearm. Almost. Blood pours out of the cut, as he hurriedly runs out of the apartment, leaving us to die.

⚠️Abuse ends here yet there are still mentions of blood and depressing thoughts throughout the rest of the chapter!! ⚠️

Almost. She Almost lived. I Almost saved her. We Almost completed our life goals together as Sisters. But I was too late. I wasn't Fast enough. I wasn't Strong enough. I wasn't Good enough.

Another heart-renching Sob shook my body, as tears leaked out of my eyes, and down my dirty face.

I couldn't feel her pulse, she was Gone. I didn't want to leave her, but I knew I couldn't stay here either. The dogs were on a walk in the forest while I was working, and by now they were probably waiting outside like everyone one else, full of anxiety.

It took all I had to stand up. The pain was too much, but I had to get out, and I was taking Emily with me. I picked her up and slung her over my shoulder. I slowly began making my way towards the emergency exit, the elevator most likely not working anymore.

On my way there, I hear a muffled cry for help. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but I went as quick as I could towards the cry's of help, covered in panic and agony.

As I pushed open an apartment's door, I saw a boy and a girl, both seeming to be siblings, sitting in the corner of the room, under some hot rubble. I moved closer, setting Emily's body down, and reaching out my hand. They were terrified, and it didn't look like they would budge anytime soon.

"H-hey, I-I'm he-here to he-help." I said calmly. The boy, obviously the older of the two, probably 10, took my hand, allowing me to pull him out. Next I pulled out his sister, who looked 7, who followed willingly after her brother.

I picked up Emily once again, only noticing the frantic look on the boys face. "What's wrong?!" "Our d-d-dog L-L-Lucy, s-she—" "it's okey, we'll find her." With a quick glance around the apartment, I spotted a Labrador retriever hidden under the now collapsed bed. "Hey it's okey, come out Lucy." The dog hesitantly came out, limping.

Her front paw was injured, probably sprained or broken. "Cmon, up!" I commanded her, attempting to get her to go on my back, almost like a piggy back ride. Surprisingly, she did as told. "Cmon kids we need to get out!"

We were able to get down the stairs to the second floor, but had to stop there, because of the collapsed parts of the building blocking the way. We didn't have much time, before the whole thing fell down.

I put Emily and Lucy down, holding Emily upright, and then grabbing the 2 kids and Lucy in my arms, almost like a group hug.
"Hold on tight you guys!" I yelled over the loud bangs of the building starting to collapse.

I jumped towards the window, breaking the glass, and holding on tightly to those wrapped in my arms.

It was a pretty short fall, from the second story, to the hard pavement.

I fell directly on my left shoulder, breaking the fall of the others, causing them no harm at all.
I felt extreme pain, but the pain in my shoulder numbed the pain of my other wounds. I let the kids and their dog out of my arms, as they ran to their mother and father.

I resumed my position of holding tightly to Emily, not moving when the paramedics tried taking her away.

They finally managed to pry me off of her after several agonizingly long minutes.

They put me on a stretcher, bringing me into the ambulance. My vision went blank before we reached the hospital, hiding the pain for now.
