they say time heals everything.

unfortunately, that had not been the case for billie and madelyn.

as time progressed, they slowly grew apart. it wasn't a significance difference, but it was enough for the people around them to notice and enough to take a toll on the both of them.

madelyn spent most of her days on campus or hanging out with jorja on weekends. whenever she did go by billie's, they didn't do much. watch a movie maybe?

make small talk and pretend like their relationship wasn't crumbling right before their eyes.

but it was almost impossible to ignore something like that. witnessing your soulmate turn into your acquaintance was more saddening than it was scary.

through thick and thin, madi had been lingering on, hopping things would go back to normal.

normal didn't exist anymore.

'normal' was a thing of the past and she would never get it back.

unlike madi, billie had been attending her classes less often; but when she did, she'd pray to a god she didn't believe in, that she would somehow, bump into madelyn.

all she wanted to do was see her.

hold her hands and tell her that she didn't want to loose her.

maybe god is real.

billie thought, when her fantasy became a reality.

she looked up from her phone as she walked to class, and spotted madelyn, not too far away.

without thoroughly thinking her next moves through, she neared and stopped madelyn in her tracks.

a small smile appeared on her lips as she stood before her longtime girlfriend.

billie, on the other hand, looked uneasy. a little nervous even.

"hi."

"hey."

"i missed you." billie admitted and madelyn's smile faded.

billie frowned and took madi's hands into her own. "i'm serious."

madelyn willingly let billie hold her hands. she still loved her, after all. she especially adored how billie's warm, smooth skin felt against hers. it was comforting.

more importantly, securing.

"i think we should sit down and really talk tonight, billie."

immediately following her request, billie spoke, "i can't. i have a modeling thing tonight."

the temporary feeling of admiration quickly dispersed into thin air.

"thing?" madi repeated.

"yeah, it's like a gig... can we reschedule?"

"no. we can't." she stated firmly.

"but--"

"--just forget it, alright?"

"i'm sorry." billie's entire face dropped.

madelyn hummed, disbelievingly, her eyes drifting away from the woman in front of her.

she was now looking over her shoulder, mindlessly, not being able to bear looking her in the eyes.

"i'm gonna miss my next lecture." was all she said before slightly attempting to release billie's hands.

billie clasped onto her, desperately, making the brunette sigh. she felt empathetic.

"i really have to go."
