Harry's POV
"I don't care how much it costs I need the next flight to California!" I slammed my credit card down in the counter.
The guy hit the keys on his computer and printed me a ticket. "Gate 127, better hurry before they close the doors." He pointed.
I grabbed my card back and nodded at him. "Thank you!"
I ran as fast as my legs would carry me. Gate 127, and the woman was pulling the door. I made eye contact with her and she paused. Ticket in hand I made it just in time.
"Cutting it close." She smiled. "Enjoy your flight."
I just nodded and hurried into the plane. I'd been on more planes this year than I had my whole life. My seat wasn't first class but I wasn't one to complain. As long as I was in California by morning. I fastened my belt and watched the flight attendant do her safety speech.
"First time flying?" The guy beside me asked.
I shook my head. "Hardly."
"You seem nervous."
"My girlfriends grandma is in the hospital. I just need to see her." I said then realized Anna wasn't really my girlfriend now. "Well, my ex girlfriend I suppose."
"You don't sound so sure about that." He leaned back in his seat.
The man looked like a real live Santa Claus. His hair was all white and he had a matching beard that would put lumberjacks to shame. He had a round belly and was wearing a tight red plaid shirt. Just the kind of man you'd want to pour your life story out to on a plane.
"If it were up to me she wouldn't be my ex." I smiled. "She's hard headed though."
"Well son, if you're willing to fly eleven hours to be at her side in a hard time I'd say you're a good man. I hope it works out for ya." He smiled. "What's her name?"
"Anna." I said.
"Ladies and gentlemen we're about to take off!" The flight attendant turned on the fasten seatbelt light.
I chatted with the man, who's name I learned was Craig, for awhile. We talked about Anna and why we broke up. His granddaughters were big fans of my album so I signed a few things for him. He told me about his late wife, and how he was flying to see his daughter for the first time since she'd moved to the states.
He was a beautiful soul. He was truly a kind man. When our flight was landing he told me again that he hoped things would work out for Anna and I.
"Good luck with your girlfriend. I'll pray for her grandmother." He said grabbing his luggage.
"Enjoy seeing your daughter." I smiled as we parted ways.
Funny how in times of panic you meet the kindest souls. I got an Uber to the hospital and found myself getting more nervous the closer we got. Would Anna even want me there? Would she tell me to leave?
I thanked the driver as I got out and headed inside. The front desk woman pointed me to the correct waiting room and told me I could take a seat until she got the okay for me to go back. I hoped to see Macy or Emilia lingering around but that wasn't the case.
The only other people in the waiting area were an older man watching the tv, and a young girl who looked like she was waiting for someone to pull a car up as she watched out the window.
"Harry?" My head whipped around to see Macy holding two cups of coffee. "What are you doing here?"
"Anna called and said Susie was in the hospital and she didn't know what was going on. Something about a seizure, and I just got on a plane and came as fast as I could. How is she?" I asked walking towards her.
"They moved her to her own room." Macy said seeming uncomfortable. "Anna Marie didn't tell me you'd be coming."
"I don't think she really knew." I sighed. "Can I see her?"
"Anna Marie or her gramma?" Macy asked.
My heart hurt at her name. The look on Macy's face told me she already knew the real answer though. I gave her a sad smile.
"Either."
She looked over her shoulder at the desk lady, who was on the phone now. "Follow me Styles."
We walked down the hall and took the elevators up. The seventh floor down the hall and outside a room she stopped. Facing me she sighed and looked up at the sky as if she were asking god for answers.
"She's going to be mad when I let you in, but Harry, she's the best person I know. I love her more than anyone, and if I thought for an actual second that you would hurt her I'd walk down this hallway and shove you out that window." She pointed to the window at the end of the hallway. "I know you care about her though. No one flies across the world for someone they don't care for. No one writes so many songs about a girl he doesn't love."
My heart sped up. "I love Anna. I'd jump out that window down there if that's what it took to make her see it."
Macy chuckled. "She's beating herself up about this. She blames herself."
"For the seizure?"
Macy nodded. "Thinks she stressed out her gramma too much. She's sad without you, and she feels lost."
"I only want to help her." I said.
"I know that, but she's going to feel betrayed when I bring you in." Macy sighed. "I love her though and I know you're good for her."
I hugged Macy. "Thank you."
She smiled when I stepped back. "Is Mitch still in London?"
I nodded. "Sorry."
"It's okay, I call him every night." She smirked. "Let's get this over with."
She opened the door and Anna was on her feet by the window facing out over the parking lot. Susie was connected to all kinds of wires and machines. She was sleeping but she was also breathing.
"Anna Marie," Macy said tenderly.
Anna looked over her shoulder and our eyes met. It looked like she stopped breathing. I was expecting yelling and maybe even for her to tell me to leave.
Instead though tears welled up in her eyes and she ran across the room to throw her arms around my neck. I held her tight as she cried into my shoulder.
"It's okay Love." I rubbed her back softly.
She hugged me tighter. "I knew you'd come."
