I run through the forest, branches and twigs slapping against my face as I duck under a low hanging branch and jump over a log. I breathe in the sweet scent of the forest and run faster in determination to get there in time, leaving a trail of white lightning in my wake. I pump my arms faster and leap over a ditch in the ground, skidding to a stop at the edge of the forest that connects to the park.

I duck beneath a small bush just big enough to cover myself fully and push away a few twigs in front of my face so that I get a clear view of the small park bench a few meters in front of me. I get into position just in time to see Barry Allen get his speed back.

A big blue portal opens and I squint to see a young woman with light brown skin and slightly curly, black hair reach out towards Barry, calling him to come back to her. He reaches through to her and grasps her outstretched hand disappearing into the portal.

I jump up from my hiding spot and rush towards the portal as it starts to disappear. I peer inside the portal and see some sort of lab with stark white walls and a table with computers and laptops on it up a few steps. On the far wall, there is a sign that says STAR Labs on it. I try to look around more when the portal suddenly closes. I sigh in disappointment and walk over to the park bench, sitting down on it with a huff.

I don’t know how long I sit there, just staring at the sky as the sun starts to set. It starts to drizzle and I decide it is time to go home. I run down the path that leads to my house, going slowly so as to not slip on the wet stone. I pass the cemetery and round the corner, coming to a slow stop in front of the two-storey, blue house I call home. I trodd up the steps to the front door and open the door, closing it behind me.

I take off my grey, fur lined, winter coat and matching grey scarf hanging them on the coat hanger by the door to allow them to dry. I take off my short black boots and gloves next, leaving them by the door as well. I walk into the kitchen, following the scent of warm butter chicken and rice.

I sit down by the table and grab a plate, heaping a large portion of food for myself. Someone clears their throat and I look up to see my mum glaring at me disappointedly.

“Lexi, why were you watching Barry when I specifically told you to stay in your room and finish your school work?” She asks me. I swallow down my food nervously and take a sip of water.
“How did you know I was watching?” I answer her question with a question.
“You should know by now that I know everything that happens here. Now answer my question,” her bright green eyes seem to pierce my soul. She is usually very soft and kind but when I go against her orders she gets full on scary.
“I just wanted to see Barry before he left is all,” I mumble. Her expression softens a fraction and she looks at me understandingly.
“Ok, just don’t do that again, if he had seen you, it would have bought up all sorts of questions that we don’t want.”
I nod and take another bite of my food though I know that if I could go back, I would still sneak out to watch him leave, even though it means a scolding.

Barry might never come back again and he is the only other real person that I have seen since I can remember. I finish my food and take my plate and glass into the kitchen, rinsing them and putting them into the cupboard before I head upstairs.

I head into my small bedroom and get my sketchbook and pencil out of my bedside cabinet. Sitting down on my small single bed, I quickly sketch out an image of Barry and the young woman I saw in the portal as well as I can, considering I only got a brief glimpse of them both.

Over the past years I have drawn everything here to pass the time as there is nothing else to do other than school work, reading books in my small tree house in the forest and training my speed in secret, though I am sure mum knows I do.

This is the first time however that I have been able to sketch someone other than myself or mum. Using my speed, I sketch them both in a matter of seconds. I then sketch the lab I saw through the portal and the sign that said STAR Labs on it along with the weird star logo.

I make sure to hide the sketch book in the bottom draw of my bedside cabinet so that mum doesn’t see it. She gave it to me for my 12 birthday as I learnt I liked to sketch and could do it reasonably well. I don’t know where she even got it but haven’t bothered asking as she will just give me some sort of cryptic answer or none at all.

I don’t remember how I got here, all I remember was one day, waking up with no recollection of anything, on the park bench. Mum (that’s what I call her but I don’t actually know her real name) found me on that park bench and brought me here, not answering any of my questions. I have been here for just over 3 years now, my 13 birthday was a few months ago ( though I didn't know how old I was exactly when I got here, I just had to assume my age based on how old I looked) marking my 3rd year here.

Since I arrived, mum has been teaching me all sorts of school work that she insists I do, no matter how much I complain. When I first got here I did know basic maths, science and how to read and write but I have no idea how. I just sort of knew it.

I walk into the small bathroom connected to my room and quickly take a shower, lathering my hair in my favourite, scented shampoo. I step out of the shower and wrap a towel around myself. Walking over to the mirror above the sink, I use my hand to wipe away the fog that formed and frown.

I wouldn't consider myself ugly, just a bit too plain for my taste. I have long, light hair that falls to my waist that is too dark to be considered blonde and not quite dark enough to be brown. I have lightly tanned skin and a few freckles dotted over my nose from when I spent long hours training in the sun. My eyes are a mixture of bright green and swirls of blue and white which is the one thing I hate the most. The white is the same colour as my lightning that forms when I run and some might think it looks cool but for me it is just too odd.

I quickly dry myself off and walk over to my closet, getting dressed into a pair of light grey sweatpants and a loose white t-shirt. I walk back into the bathroom and brush my teeth before turning off all the lights and climbing into bed.

Mum doesn't sleep, she doesn't need to, considering she is not human. She has never told me what she is, only that she isn't human. I'm the only one here and even I'm not fully human considering my powers. When I first came here and found I could run at super speed among other things, I thought everyone could too but when I started to read books in my tree house I found out that it is certainly not normal.

Ever since then in the early mornings I would go to a small clearing in the forest and practice till I got exhausted. I roll over onto my side and close my eyes, almost instantly falling asleep.
