Authors note: Happy birthday Greta (sunsctflash). 💖 This story begins tragic and ends on a very happy note. Also I do love Felicity guys, just as a heads up because this one shot is not completely Felicity friendly.
As soon as Barry had heard about Laurel's unfortunate fate, he rushed over to Star City to pay his respect to his friend (and secret crush) Oliver Queen.
He found Oliver alone next to his first love's grave and slowly approached him. "Hey, I'm so sorry for your loss. If there's anything... I can do." Barry said carefully, his voice almost a whisper.
Oliver didn't even look up at him. "No, I brought this on myself. This darkness upon everyone I care about..." he said with a deep sigh with a single tear rolling down his cheek.
Barry didn't really know what to do, but he found himself reaching for Oliver's hand to comfort him. "I'm here for you." he said with a calm and comforting voice.
"Don't!" Oliver snapped and pulled his hand back. "Run as far away from me as possible or you'll end up in a casket too." he said without looking up at Barry. The speedster noticed real tears streaming down his friend's face and he felt absolutely powerless to help him. "I'm too fucking damaged... Laurel is dead because of me. Felicity left because I'm a mess. You better leave too before you get hurt because I brought this darkness upon your life too."
Barry looked at his friend with so much compassion and empathy because he couldn't even think about what he would do if he lost Iris. Suddenly he realized that he was crying too. "No, I won't leave you! During our last mission together I told you that, Ollie and I still mean it." he said with a soft voice and Oliver finally managed to look up at him. His blue eyes filled with tears. "More than ever." the speedster whispered and pulled Oliver into a hug. He was surprised when Oliver wrapped his arms around him in return while he cried silently into Barry's neck.
"Please, promise me you won't ever leave me." Oliver sobbed. "I can't lose everyone." He squeezed Barry even tighter as he cried so much that he thought he might've cracked a rib on the thinner superhero, but Barry couldn't care less, it would heal anyway with his powers.
"Shhh, I won't, Ollie, of course I won't. I'm here." Barry whispered softly while placing a hand on Oliver's head holding him closer while he let the broken man get it all out, all those tears and the pain he was holding in.
Oliver hadn't even realized they'd been moving until they found themselves in his own apartment. "Why are we here, Barry? The monster who killed Laurel is still out there and I'm not gonna rest until I've killed him." he said with his most threatening Arrow voice.
Barry sighed and crossed his arms in an attempt to be the mentor for once. "If you go out there now, you'll be blinded by your own rage. And I once had a very good but strict mentor who told me to never run in blind." he said which caused Oliver to sigh and shake his head in frustration.
"Really? You're gonna use my own words against me?" The archer asked frustratedly which caused Barry to grin proudly. He was trying to get Oliver on a better mood and he knew the archer was starting to get mad at him instead of focusing on all murderous plans.
"Yeah, you're so stubborn you're not gonna listen to someone other than you." The speedster said while flashing him another grin. Oliver sighed once again.
"Come on, Ollie, when was the last time you slept?" Barry asked as a change of subject because he could notice how exhausted the other man looked. Then his cheeks turned slightly red for asking his crush something involving a bed.
"I don't know... and I certainly can't sleep now, every time I close my eyes I see..." Oliver stopped and paused. "...Laurel dying. And her father's expression when he knew he'd lost his daughter...because of me. And my fucking dangerous life." the anger boiled over again, the tears turned into rage so now he was too angry to even cry anymore.
Barry didn't know what would calm him down so instead he simply rushed him into the bedroom, quickly without looking (okay maybe he threw a quick peek at his crush, but who can blame him?) stripped him of the suit and put him into sweatpants and a t-shirt to sleep in.
Then Oliver gave him an odd look considering he barely had time to understand what just happened. "You're not gonna let this go are you?" he sighed deeply. Barry was shaking his head while he folded up the covers. Then it was Oliver's turn to shake his head.
"Don't you have a city to protect?" Oliver asked when Barry tapped at the bed until the other man forced himself to crawl under the covers with another deep sigh.
"Right now there's no other place I need to be. You need friends, Ollie. Even if you think you don't." Barry said with a sigh and Oliver hated when the obnoxious speedster was right. He simply laid there, staring up at the ceiling in his bed for a while before he felt the grief creeping up on him again.
Barry noticed that it looked like Oliver was shaking, probably not because he was cold since he don't get cold anymore.
"So, I'm just gonna sit here then." Barry said and sat down carefully on the foot end of the bed.
"Can't you just hold me?" Oliver whispered. He wasn't quite sure why he uttered that request and he instantly felt embarrassed because it sounded like he was a little sick child, but Barry quickly rushed into more comfortable clothes that he borrowed before he slipped into bed next to Oliver. He didn't give himself much time to feel nervous or awkward about this because it all happened so fast.
Once he was lying next to the handsome vigilante, in a borrowed oversized dark-blue t-shirt and the pair of shorts he had worn underneath his tux, he carefully wrapped his arms around him from behind. Then he quietly started humming on some song.
